Thumbs down One of THOSE days...

Nothing tastes good today. I started out with some egg beaters, cheese, and diced ham. I took about 3 bites and put the plate down for the dog. Next up was some Syntrax Nectar Wild Grape protein powder mixed with water. Ewww - gritty! I tried my old stand by Syntrax Matrix - Peanut Butter Cookie protein powder, soy milk (I can no longer tolerate milk) with 2 tablespoons of PB2 and ice... Whizzed it in the blender til smooth, poured it in a glass and on my first drink, gagged from the smell! (This is my first time with that protein powder and soy... and it was no bueno!). I had an ounce of beef jerky and now I'm drinking a Premiere Protein snack sized shake.

Food has basically lost all appeal to me and it's just a means to getting my protein in so my hair doesn't fall out! I now eat because I have to - but days like today make it really difficult.

So, sleevers - what is your old stand by? What can you always eat/drink? I am really struggling today. =/

Oh, I wish I had a good answer... My best 'stand-by' is a piece of mozzarella cheese!

I have not mixed the Syntrax Wild Grape with water, only milk/soy milk. It's still marginal... On days like that, I choke down 1/2 of a protein bullet. Its easier to get down 1.9 oz than 8!

I feel exactly the same way. It is a struggle daily and have the same fear of loosing my hair. My tummy has a very definite feeling when it is hungry and also when it is full. I have no advice either, just frustrated too.

Gee I'm the opposite, everything tastes better than before surgery but I can only have 2 ounces right now. I am going into my 6th week. Oatmeal works good for me and string cheese, cottage cheese and yoghurt. No problems with milk for me unless it is 2 percent, I stay with 1 percent. I got some protein chips today from diet direct online and they were really spicy and good. I'm just keep trying different things, see what works best for you, everyone is different.

Plain 0% greek yogurt. Unflavored protein powder mixed with whatever you can tolerate. I don't have a problem with diary and started with protein powder and skim milk. Oatmeal also goes down easy. In the beginning everything tasted too sweet for me. Actually the flavored shakes still do. Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Laughing cow wedge with some melba toast and cottage cheese. I can't do any of the the protein shakes, I either gag or vomit! I can do unflavored powder in about 3 ounces of crystal light.

Just - I'm not sleeved yet but read with curiosity how what once tasted so good now does not taste good at all. Does this happen with everything you put in your mouth??? I just have visions in my head of throwing out a lot of foods. I'm actually a little nervous thinking about not liking food and not having it agree with me.

Every journey begins with one small step....

It doesn't happen with everything, but a good number of things, yes! It started the day after surgery with SF jello. I think lots of it is in my head because I simply do not get hungry so every meal is for nutrition, not to knock down my hunger. While out shopping last week, we went to Steak & Shake. I got a cup of chili and a "shooter" (a teeny hamburger - like 1/4 of a single). The chili was fine, but after removing the bun and attempting to eat the hamburger, I discovered I don't really like their hamburgers anymore. I used to love them! If something has a strong smell, it immediately turns my stomach. The only thing that seriously hasn't agreed with me is milk. Wowza... that was rough. But, the rest of it just didn't taste as good anymore.

I'm looking forward to warm weather, the barbecue grill, and fresh produce. I'm not supposed to have fresh veggies, bread, or too much roughage for another 3 weeks. I'm ready!

I am at month five and have made many different discoveries. Number #1 - most of the things that I survived on the first two months? I can't even look at them. Even my favoite yogurt, is a no-go now. I am still eating oatmeal but don't want jello, pudding, yogurt or eggs. I am eating "normal" foods now and still have to be careful. I have yet to touch a hamburger. Last time I had a meatball, I threw up. Yet, I managed meatloaf, but don't want anymore. As long as I am losing weight, I am happy with what I am eating. #2 - Now is not the time to be adventurous with food. #3- I have felt like and actually have thrown up anything with protein powder in it, but pre-op, I was just fine. No clue other than it is a texture thing.

Keb - Chicken salad is a big no go for me... I ate that a lot when I was on puréed foods.

Food sounded a bit more appetizing today. I made 8 Can Enchilada Soup today, it was so good! I actually ate my whole serving, and with 2% shredded cheese on top, it was 22g of protein.

I'm eating regular food with no problems as long as I eat slowly and chew well and limit my portion size to 2-3 oz. I cannot drink the protein shakes though...too sweet. 28 gm = 1 oz. So 90 gm protein/day is only 3 oz. I dont worry too much about the protein because Im getting 2-3 oz protein in a day. I do get very hungry if I go too long without eating so I have a midmorning snack and an afternoon snack of a slice of cheese or applesauce. I cook a regular meal for my family at dinner and just have a very small portion. Breakfast and lunch are usually left-overs from dinner. If I want an evening snack I have a sugar free popscicle. Another snack I like is a slice of crispy turkey bacon. When I've felt nauseated it's been because I've eaten too large a portion. I've learned now how much I can eat and I stop eating at about 2-3 oz. If I eat until I feel full it's too late and I suffer for it. We're all different though. I think it's trial and error for all of us. The other thing I've learned is I must have my Prilosec every day or I get bad heartburn.
