    Default Struggling this week :(

Hey everyone. I started the purée stage this week and I haven't found 1 thing that is agreeing with me. For example: soft scrambled eggs with a bit of cheese nauseates me, refried beans can't stomach, ricotta bake, tuna fish. It all is very unappealing. I want crunchy veggies and crisp salads. I know I can't but my mind is going nuts. I've been maintaining protein by doing the shakes. But holy crap on a cracker this is hard!! In 2 weeks I can start solid foods so I know the day is coming I just hope I will enjoy the flavor or food again. I'm finding that it is tasting medicinal to me. Anyone have this experience??

yes. especially water. use a food processor to blend some carrots or other veggies (or buy a few jars of baby food). it is bland (no salt or pepper), so you will need to flavor. time will pass. I kept my options short so I wouldn't get overwhelmed. greek yogurt, pudding with added protein powder. cream of potato soup or tomato soup woth flavorless protein powder works well. stop focusing on what you want and can't have-it will not help! find just a few foods that work and stick with them...2 weeks goes fast. cream of wheat, creamy oatmeal (thinned out), think of baby/toddler foods that are easy to digest and bland. those will be best for you. I am 8 months out and really didn't eat "normal" until 5 months. I didn't push myself and am doing great now. my surgeon is impressed with how good I am doing. best wishes to you...

I certainly had to delay my progression a bit because my previous cast iron stomach became very sensitive after the sleeve. It is getting better day by day, but I still depend on 2 protein drinks/day. If I didn't, my protein intake would me abysmal. My tastes did change a bit but not too bad, I think it might be the vitamins/minerals in the protein drinks that are making things taste medicinal for you. I have a bit medicinal and metallic taste thing going too.

Oh how I want a nice crisp salad!! You are NOT alone on that front!

hang in there Terri, it gets better. I didn't like the pureed stage either. I ate deviled canned ham spread, cottage cheese, applesauce and jello, just didn't like puree texture. I think I rushed through it, you'll get there also

I just started my pureed diet this week and will be on it for 4 weeks! It seems a little soon to go onto solids. Take the cheese away there might be too much fat in it for you at this point. I have been tempted to try a couple of things that i WANT but I am not going to spoil the hard work I have done so far! I too would LOVE a salad but it will taste all the better if I wait. The first thing I had pureed was clam chowder, it was awesome!! Hang in there it won't be much longer.

Thanks everyone. I just a mental block I have to work through. I can't hold more then a few teaspoons of the purée food right now anyway. Years of over eating takes time to change. My stomach isn't ready yet and my mind needs to learn some new habits. Baby steps.

I made homemade chicken and vegetable soup for my purée stage. I left the chicken chunks quite large so I could weigh them out. I would weigh two ounces of chicken then add some veggies and broth and purée in the magic bullet. I found it really went down well and I could add salt and pepper to taste. Also slow cooked roast, puréed with some garlic mashed potatoes and au jus. I also made turkey chili to purée but I didn't end up eating very much of it because I enjoyed the other two items. I was told no eggs in the purée stage, I had to wait until soft food stage for eggs.

I'm still amazed daily at the difference between drs post-op meal plans. They are all so different. We r allowed eggs this week but I can't get them down without gagging. The smell alone makes me sick. I used to love Eggs.

Eggs after surgery gagged me, too! I still haven't eaten them scrambled, actually. I bought a TON of SF jello before surgery and couldn't stand that afterwards, either. I lived on chicken salad and Wendy's chili in the blender, during the pureed stage. To be honest, lots of things taste funky to me now. I am still on soft foods for another 3 weeks and I! CANNOT! WAIT! to have a Pink Lady apple and a salad. I wouldn't have ever imagined those are the things I'd be craving.
