Default Not loosing Weight- Thinking about trying HCG

I had surgery March 28 and have only lost 26 pounds. I am ready to try supplementing my diet with the hcg protocol. I can't believe the sleeve just hasn't worked for me at all. I think the 26 pounds I lost was just trying to follow the diet and not because of the sleeve. I am still hungry, I can drink and eat the same amounts. I have to stop myself from eating but its hard as I was depending on the sleeve to stop me. Many of my friends eat what they want but get full after a couple of bites that they still loose weight no matter how poor the food choices are. Me on the other hand is struggling with protein, veggies, no sugar, water, water, water, exercise( just started 3 weeks ago) and no results. I honestly think my sleeve is too big and I don't want to pay for or do another surgery so I am looking for safe supplements that wont raise my heart rate. Any thoughts, advice?

Question, where did you get your surgery? Insurance? I have been on HCG and it is a really tough plan, probably similar to what the sleeve requires with the exception that on the sleeve you can eat complex carbs. 500 calories for 6 weeks, then the atkins plan for 3 weeks and then maintenance. Then you start the cycle over again. Again, I felt that it wasn't a lifestyle plan that I wanted to commit with.

I would say go back to the doctors and find out what's going on, it maybe something else altogether.

    Good Luck!

I am so sorry the sleeve hasn't worked the way you thought it would. Recently I read a thread on this forum about re-sleeving, and some who found their sleeve really was too big.
As someone who tried the HCG diet as one of umpteen diets tried & failed, I can't recommend it. I lost about 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks, and then never another ounce. It was expensive, and $ wasted. Also, my doctor was furious at me because she said it was very risky at my age to have the hormone injections. They of course mimic pregnancy, and also they increase your risk of getting pregnant accidentally. There is an increased risk of thrombophlebitis & a pulmonary embolism or stroke. I also found a study after I gave up on it, that there is no scientific basis for the belief that getting pregnancy hormones will help you to lose weight.

You will be put on a 500 calorie / day diet, which is really tough to stick to. If the HCG was supposed to cut back on hunger, it didn't for me. So little caloric intake must have put me into starvation mode - which is why I quit losing after a short time. Then when I gave up on that diet, well of course I gained it all back plus more.

I went on it because my hairdresser told me about all the girls on the hair salon were on it & losing weight like crazy. Well, maybe it works if you are 22 but not being middle aged & having gone through decades of yo yo dieting.

Here is a link, I hope you will consider another way to lose the weight. Good luck! The hCG Diet: Side Effects and Health Risks - Prevention.com

I did recently hear about a new pill that instead of targeting your "full" stomach signal, targeted the part in your brain that tells you your hungry. Sorry I didn't pay much attention to what it was called. It's prescription, you could check with your regular doctor. The bit on the news looked pretty promising.

HCG was the last fad diet I was on. I lost 49 pounds then once I started eating normally again, I gained it all back plus enough to put me at my highest weight ever. I lost my gallbladder over it too.
I can't imagine how it must feel to have the sleeve and not get the results you wanted. I do hope you can find out the answers you need and move forward with your weightloss.

Surgery was done in Mexico. They ensured me that they used the same size bougie as they do on everyone. Others are having success without trying. I have to try extra hard to get the little results that I am having. After 6 months of trying really hard, I now eat whatever I want. I never gain more than 5 pounds. I know there is a slight difference in my stomach size but it seems to vary day to day. In the past, chicken and beef would fill me up quickly, but I could still eat a whole breast but I would be full the whole day. Before surgery, I could eat a three piece meal and be hungry later. I have never experienced the fullness of eating 1/2 a cup of food.

Thanks. I have had the thyroid tested regularly for the last 10 years. Its been normal despite my hypo symptoms. I was diagnosed as hyper 13 years ago but even then, had hypo symptoms. They never really went away. Only change is that my blood work says I am normal.

I started the hcg diet. I did it previously and although I did gain it back previously, it took a long time before I gained it back. So far I have lost 12 pounds in 9 days. I will continue doing this until I get down to my desired weight and try to maintain on my own. I did the diet pill thing and now I have heart valve problems.

I am sorry about your gall bladder. A lot of people with the sleeve have had to have their gall bladder removed because of the rapid weight loss.

Ditto what others have said. The HCG diet was the last one tried before deciding on the VSG. Was great while on it - took 2 sessions of the drops, but as soon as I went back on regular foods - the weight came back plus some. I take Synthroid every day - Thyroid removed over 20 years ago - so it's been an uphill climb. You should definately talk to your PCP about your surgery. A "one size fits all" bougie sounds a little weird to me, but maybe taking a look and getting a second opinion from a bariatric surgeon is a good idea. Please be careful of the HCG.

This was my thought as well. I tried doing an HCG regimen post-sleeve to kickstart weight loss again but I found HCG is not nearly as effective for sleevers (personal observation).

I got some good prescription drugs to regulate my insulin resistance and it's made a huge difference (started dropping weight again rapidly after a six month stall).
