    Smile Hospital bag

    Hello everyone!
Just wanted to know what I should pack since my surgery is in Mexico. The lists I've come across seem like they were geared toward people who have had surgery in the States so it's not a big deal to "over pack". I don't want to haul all this crap thru the airport if I don't need to. I have the
toiletries, gas x, and chap stick as a must have. Someone said a heating pad and an extension cord....REALLY....an extension cord? People who have been, please let me know what u took & used or what u didn't take, but wish you would have.

    Thanks in advance.

As someone who used to work in the US passport office I just want to say not only should you take your passport, you should have a raised seal original birth certificate with you. Should you lose your passport, you will need it to get an emergency one to get home. Pack them in separate places.

The heating pad is a bit much. You'll some good soled slippers to walk in,a robe, pj bottoms or men's boxer shorts or loose fitting pants to wear under your hospital gown when you walk the halls, a book or some music might help distract you. I know I didn't use half the stuff I brought with me.

I would say keep it to a minimum! I packed a robe and my PJ's but did not use them I used the hospital gown the night of my surgery and the I wore my yoga pants and t-shirt for the rest of my recovery until the trip home. They do let you wear your underwear during surgery so I would wear some dark panties, they use idodine on your incisions so it will ruin lighter colors =)

I brought a tighter fitting cami for the flight home and I am glad I did I felt a little less jiggly and more comfortable.

Most of the time the people in the recovery house go shopping everyday so you can always ask them to pick up anything you need.

Ask the staff for anything you need they are kind but do not hover asking if you need anything =)

Oh and bring cash for tips and buying your x-ray.

I had mine in Mexico also...I had a wonderful experience. Even though my room had a computer and wifi, I took my laptop and some DVD's...Wish I would have packed some mini speakers or earbuds. I never needed a heating pad or an extension cord. Remember to pack your chargers. I was lucky to get phone service and could text/chat with friends on facebook. Good luck on your new journey!!! You will love it!!!
