    Post Nanny of Twins

I'm a nanny of 5 month old twins and am getting my surgery next week. The only thing about the surgery that I am nervous about is going back to work. It is 3 days a week, 10 hr days. I am taking 12 days post surgery off. Is that enough?? I am a very active person and have no other health issues but I don't want to do anything to screw this up. Anyone with small kids, your advice will be appreciated!!

Depending on how your body reacts to surgery 12 days should be fine. I went for my sugary and came home 4 days later and resumed normal life taking care of my 8 and 3 year old and my home full time.

Check with your surgeon about your lifting restrictions. My surgeon had me on a 5 pound limit to start, increasing by 5 lbs each week. You do NOT want to risk a hernia or worse by lifting too much too soon.

Dr. Almanza has a lifting restriction, too.

I had a lifting restriction of 5 pounds for the first week, 10 pounds for the second week, 25 pounds for the next 2 weeks. I go see the surgeon on monday and see if my lifting restriction is gone.

That said, while I felt fine a week after the surgery, I wipe out much easier than I used too. Pre-surgery I could walk on a treadmill for 20-30 min and now I am slowly working my way up to 15 min at a time and then I feel super wiped out.

If you are going to be working 10 hour days, make sure you are getting both your protein and your fluids in or you will probably be exhausted half way through the day.
