I haven't done the surgery yet but i was wondering what exams do they do before surgery. I am hoping to save money and do it in Mexico.
You will have a medical history form to complete. There will likely be questions on it regarding history of depression. Just answer honestly and likely it will all work out. There is a lot of counseling, nutritional counseling & other work up to do if you are sleeved in the US. In mexico, likely all you will need are labs and an EKG prior to your surgery.
I think we all suffer from depression !!! So dont let that discourage u likely they will make sure u are or get help for that ! But honestly they wouldnt be preforming any sugeries if that were the case . Stick around u will learn lots and the only dumb question is the one u dont ask!!!! Hugs and good luck!!
I do not think that we all have depression (I don't), but I do think that it is very important for you to ale your surgeon aware of your struggles. I would also highly, highly encourage you to find a support group in your local area that you can attend and meet with others on a similar journey. I would also recommend that you see a bariatric psychologist or a psychologist who works with people with eating disorders as you prepare for survey and post-op. These things have been monumental for me and have greatly contributed to my success! This will be a help for those who do have depression and those who do not. We are all in it together!

I suffer from major depression very severe at times and I'm on meds for it and have even been hospitalized for it. A big portion of it is due to my struggles with weight/body image/self esteem. You have to have a psychological clearance. Depression won't stop you from having the surgery at all. My doctor said I'll be off of the meds for a day then back to them as normal. So it shouldn't be an issue. Hope that helps.
