    Default TJ marriott tips

Ok, this is my 3rd (and I hope my final) attempt at posting this thread. Either my netbook is given me fits or the connection. That or I have posted 3 threads on the same topic! I am loopy from the surgery still but not quite that bad, so I hope not.

First off, the Marriott is lovely. Lots of staff to help you, everyone is courteous and smiles. The place is clean and feels like a haven. My room is large and comfortable. If you are the type who gets cold easily, bring some sweaters or a warm nightie to sleep in. The AC shuts off but I don't think there is much in the way of heat.

I liked the chicken broth ok the first night (pre-op) but after surgery - no way. It smelled very strong of chicken & seemed greasy. I couldn't eat any of it and it sort of stank up my room until I sealed the saran wrap back on it. It was such that I didn't want to chance dumping it in the toilet because the smell might have lingered in the bathroom, and then I would have really been sunk. Even the first night though I didn't think it was great, just ok.

The gift shop doesn't have Gatorade. They have zero calorie vitamin water and bottled water, soda pop & milk. I decided to take a chance on the peach nectar. I am so glad I did! That was the turned the corner on my nausea. It is thick & soothing and tastes like heaven. It has some sugar in it, which at this point I need something to keep me from keeling over. It's called del Valle Nectar, has a picture of peaches & a peach slice on the can and "Durazno" at the bottom of the can. There is a lemon nectar too, I can only vouch for the peach. It's heavenly!
There was no way I could have gone shopping, because car rides are out of the question when you feel this nauseous. Same with long walks out in public, who wants to walk with their emesis basin and have to sneak a puke in front of others. I told my doc I"ve been walking a lot, but in my room. I don't think he gets how nauseated I have been. Even the elevator has been hard to handle.
Anyway even after hours the desk staff will get you something out of the gift shop. The nectar is only a dollar for a big can, 335 ml.

I drank up all the peach nectar in the gift shop! LOL. Then I tried the other one, it looked like a lemon but it's really guava. It was good & worked just as fine but my preference is the peach. Thank you for all the warm welcomes back! I really do hope this thread lives on & others add to it though. It is handy to get info on a place before you get there.

My 2nd room, 202, was ok but I liked my first room better. My first room had the rounded pole for the shower curtain, which keeps the curtain from sticking to you. 202 is a lovely room, but with a straight curtain rod & I battled that curtain wanting to stick to me every shower. I'm not even as large as many are who get this surgery, so I don't think I would recommend this room. Also, in the morning there was a terrible pounding from either upstairs or somewhere close by. Maybe someone was running on a treadmill. It went on for hours. Maybe the laundry room? Don't know - whatever it was you might want to ask for a different room if you want to sleep in. That or bring ear plugs.

The heater works int he room. You have to leave your room card in while it's on. I enjoyed my stay at the Mariott. I also did not like the chicken broth there. I had the tortilla soup and only had the broth. I was sleeved on 1 Nov 2013 and I am so glad I did it. 10lbs down so far

I had my key card in the slot, and asked the bell hop to help me get the room warmer. He said all he could was shut off the AC. So maybe some rooms have it & some don't? I don't know.
They have room service until 11pm. The gift shop closes too, but someone at the desk will always call someone to unlock it so you can buy whatever you want no matter what time it is. They even brought me a can of nectar once. Service at the hotel was excellent.
Oh, the room service menu looked very good. I walked down to the restaurant once to get my chicken broth & it looked good too.
If you want wifi in your room you need to buy it. I was told $8 a day, but then later when I went to get a new access code someone said the same code would be good for a full week & I wouldn't get charged again. I don't know about wifi in the public areas, I never tried.
One thing though - if you have more than 1 device I think you pay $8 for each one. I only had a little netbook.

Here is a helpful hint about the new wifi that they are now charging 10 dollars for at the Marriot...I was on the second floor 3 weeks ago with a friend and we were able to get the FREE PUBLIC one in our room. Saved us 80 dollars. Just log into the public instead of room/private wifi. I am not sure how many floors up this will work for though. SHHHHHHHHHH
