I'd like to have a glass of wine for New Years. That'll put me about 70 days post op. Has anyone had alcohol prior to 90 days post op? I normally wouldn't care but I'm taking a special trip with friends and I'd like to celebrate with them.
Yes, i was not told that i had to avoid alcohol at all.....i am not a huge drinker but i drank about 3 weeks out (maybe 4 or 5) and i have drunk three times since that, each time consuming around 8 - 9 units over a weekend. The first few times it was spirits and coke zero, then i found out on here that soda was a no no due to its gas, so now i have cranberry and vodka, wine or Oj and vodka. Moderation and seeing how you feel will help...i found i was half drunk after two drinks due to the lack of food and a smaller stomach...cheap date all round now lol
It all depends on your doc and nut. My nut allows us to consume occasional alcohol and caffeine at about 8 weeks. I did have one mai tai at about 9 weeks out and it did make me drunk very quickly. I'm not a big drinker and prior to surgery I would have to eat with my drink in order not to get drunk. Post surgery you're drinking on an empty stomach so it's going to be more potent. Maybe try a glass of wine at home so you can see how it affects you?
I had a glass of sangria at about 70 days out. I sipped it slow & it last me over an hour. It tasted good & I really didn't notice feeling tipsy.
I used to enjoy wine with my friends once a week, but have tasted it since surgery and just do not like the taste at all...
I admit I was a wino before my surgery, at least a glass or two every day at happy hour, but since surgery wine or alcohol in any form is not appealing at all! I am happy and bummed at the same time! I have loads of great wine at home and I liked the socialization at happy hour with my friends and husband. What I do realize though is that after a glass or two I would eat anything that didn't eat me first and much too much, now I think before I eat anything. To me the trade off is very worth it!
OM Goodness, LOL, LOL. You guys are Hilarious, so funny, My cat is looking at me like what is so funny. LOL. I don't drink, however in the forum last week here in DC , one lady said she tried wine and it gave her the dumps, even with a sleeve! I think everyone will be different. I think the idea of having a glass at home with people you trust before then to see how you feel is a great idea.

I had 2 glasses of wine 7 weeks out and was fine. I do not get drunk faster as others have, it seems to be the same. I don't think though that my stomach is as small as others so this would make a difference. Also, for my b-day last Friday I had 3 crown and waters that I sipped over 4 hours and was fine. I used to love Champagne but obviously I can't have that anymore, but the sleeve is worth it!
My surgeon is fine with me having a glass or two of wine...the only problem is it can fill you up so you then don't get enough in when its meal time?? im 8 days out and I had a glass very slowly with a group get together as I didn't want anybody to know...they think I just had my gallbladder out which I did also!!! Everything in moderation I believe....I too was a bit of a boozer before the sleeve, it sure has moved my desire to drink much which im delighted about),
