Only you can answer that for sure!

I have had plenty of operations, but never WLS before. But for certain I knew this was for me, no questions asked. Looking forward to dropping sizes and gaining energy!

Only you can decide if you are doing the right thing - it's your body and your life, after all! I am personally very excited to start a new life with a new body. I know it's going to be a lot of work, but it will definitely be worth it for my health and happiness. I hope you are able to have confidence in yourself, your surgeon, and your ability to be successful - attitude is a lot of the battle we're all facing! Best wishes to you.

As the others have said, it's up to you to decide whether it's right for you. But I definitely do not regret doing it. I am down about 56 pounds since August 20th and still going.

Only you can know if WLS is the right thing for you, but from my own experience the surgery was not as bad as we make it out to be. I have had a few surgeries in my life, and this was one of the easiest that I have experienced. I never had to take any opiate pain killers for my surgery, never had any pain in my stomach or incision sites, the worst thing I experienced with my surgery was gas pain in my upper left should, which really wasn't bad at all. By the time I got back to the states 4 days later, I was right back to work, and chasing after my 2 year old son. I just celebrated my one year mark, and I am so thankful that I had this surgery done. I am so much happier and healthier than I was a year ago. Best of luck to you on your decision!

You will find that we are suckers for someone struggling. No one struggles alone around here. You are scared, your are nervous. Makes sense. You are making a serious life altering decision. What I have heard from most people that have been sleeved is that they wish they would have done it sooner. That is enough for me to be at ease. I am 32. I will be reborn before the new year and ready to meet 33 much more healthy than I am today.

I was EXTREMELY nervous. Partially because I am a Paramedic and I am usually the young in control when it comes to patient care. However, this was my experience:

My surgery lasted just over 1 hour. 2 hours after surgery I was up and walking. I never had any pain to my surgical sites. the only pain I felt was gas pains from the surgery. I spent 36 hours in hospital and I was home. My first night home was good until about 330am when I felt like I had the worst hangover of my life and I felt so sore in my back, neck and shoulder as if I was in a bad car accident. I went from my bed to a recliner. Crushed up a Percocet in some apple sauce and slept comfortably for a few hours. I medicated myself 3-4 times that day to get through. it was pretty rough and I am not one to let pain get the best of me.

The next day I woke up with minimal pain and everyday got better. I look at it as this: a simple 1-2 hour surgery to change the way I feel, look and most importantly my health is nothing to be scared of, its something to be excited for. I cant wait to go on a plane and not have to "quietly" ask for a seatbelt extender, I will never tell my daughter "No daddy cant fit down the slide with you or no daddy cant fit in that ride with you" it will never happen again and that's what changed me thoughts of fear to thought of moving on with my life because everyday is a gift. I have personally seen the spectrum of lives taken and lives beginning. Just keep positive you'll conquer this like it was nothing!

Only YOU can decide what's right for you. As for ME. I finally decided I was more afraid of what would happen if I DIDN'T do it. I lost my father when I was 13 to morbid obesity. Yep, that was actually on the death certificate. He was 54. At 47, the health problems I'd developed due to carrying extra weight for 40 years were catching up fast. 47 and 54 are not that far apart, ya know? So I did it three and 1/2 weeks ago. Absolutely NO regrets! I'm down 35 lbs and 2 sizes and off the majority of my pre-op meds. No more cravings, not even really particularly hungry. I realize its early for me and these things may change at some point, but now I have a tool to help me cope. Best decision I ever made for myself!

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

Hi. As others have said you have to decide if WLS is right for you. We all are or were nervous about the surgery. It is a major event in our lives (I'll be sleeved on 1/13/14). I am very excited to be sleeved, but my journey started back in July when my primary care doctor told me that I was headed toward super morbid obesity and I needed to do something now before I started having health problems. I have a wonderful SLP team where I'll be having my surgery and the support there and here have taken away my fears and have answered my questions.

That all being said, every one of us is different, but we all share the same general goal, be healthy, live longer and enjoy life as a smaller person.
    Good luck and keep posting.

I agree with what others have said. I'm 50and this is my first surgery. Nothing else has worked for me. I'm tired of being miserable getting around, lack of energy and the health issues. While I'm nervous about the actual surgery, I feel it will be worth it. You will get pain medication as needed. I've also heard they will give you something for your nerves prior o surgery. You might as your surgeon about this. I have to be at the hospital at 8am, surgery scheduled at 2:30.

Good luck to you. Your are not the only pre-op bundle of nerves!
