    Default Very hungry

I am about 11 days post op and feel hungry all the time. I'm so uncomfortable. I'll eat my cream soup or protein shake and in about 1/2 hour I feel like I'm starving. I never get nauseous when I eat and it's rare that I feel full. Has anyone else experienced extreme hunger after surgery? I thought the surgery was supposed to help me to stop feeling hungry. My tummy is growling so loud. Is my sleeve too big?

I have an 11 oz shake over about 15 min or a cup of soup in about the same time. I never feel too full or like I'm over doing it.

Maybe should try something a bit more substantial ... An egg, some cottage cheese, or puréed chicken...

I can't eat anything soft or solid yet. I would believe it was head hunger if my stomach wasn't screaming at me. I'm considering too much acid production, too. I'm going to call my dr Monday.

I thought the sleeve could only hold 4 oz at a time. how are you drinking a 11 oz shake? Wow! I think we are all going to have different experiences to a point. Can you call you Dr. and ask? I would be on the phone. I think my Dr.'s office is going to get tired of me because if anything seems different or out of sorts I will be on the phone. LOL, I ask a million questions : )

I find that eating something with more substance help. Like an egg, turkey sausage, chicken, something like that. Soups n shakes will go through you faster I guess. When I eat a lean protein rather than soups or yogurts I tend to stay full longer.

It can hold 4 oz of solid food. Liquids go thru much faster so you can drink more liquid at once.

Ya I think the 4 oz rule applies to solids. I watched my barium swallow and the liquid I drank from that went straight down my new tummy in to the small intestine. The stomach doesn't have to work to digest liquids. But ya, I don't feel less hungry physically then I did before the sleeve which concerns me. I don't want to fail at this.

I had the same fear. You wont fail. Although u may be as hungry you will get full much quicker so you wont be eating as much to satisfy that hunger. Just pick lean things and you will be getting full and still not eating too many calories. I just stick to lean proteins and veggies pretty much. Some fruit here and there. This has worked well for me. I am 2 months and 2 days off and I am down 52lbs. (15 pre op) I shared your fears, but you will not fail. Just stick to healthier foods and use those to satisfy ur hunger. Youll be fine!

I really appreciate the encouragement. It's scary. I spent so much money on this sleeve and I really need it to work. Maybe this is just how I will feel until I get to solids. I just really want to be a success story...not a "haha this girls so fat, weight loss surgery couldn't even help her" story. Ugh.

I feel the same way!!! I keep thinking I made the mistake of picking the sleeve over the bypass bc in pics it looks like a huge difference! I get hunger moans n then eat n it doesn't seem to go away, I steadily sip on water throughout the day to keep myself from eating anything else! I'm too scared to try something else for fear of "snagging" a staple!!! Please, please, please update us when/if u find out! I can't fail either!!!

WE wont fail. I'm learning now that we have to work our sleeves. I eat healthy and I try to do some form of exercise everyday. Try not to sweat it. I have adopted the mind set that THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I'm going to let this fail and I'm gonna do everything in my power to make it work. So healthy diet and working out it is!
