    Default Balance problems

    Hi everyone,
Has anyone had problems with their balance? I have gotten so clumsy, well clumsier..lol. Everytime I stand up I fall to the side or am unsteady. Have lost quite a bit of weight these last 2 months. Could that be causing it?

    Thanks!

When we pack on the pounds the way we move changes. Our gait changes to accommodate the additional weight.

As we lose the weight, we have to, in essence, re-learn how to walk normally and our joints have to have time to adjust to the changes and provide us the stability and flexibility we need. Something called body weight support training which is a form of physical therapy that suspends some of the weight to allow the body to re-train steadily on treadmills, etc. may be useful to correct severe balance issues.

Something that may help will general balance issues would be participating in a class or discipline such as Tai Chi or to do balance improving exercises such as these:

    Starting Weight: 284 pounds

Weight as of 12/3: 224 pounds

Have you had your blood levels done yet? I'd also check into that to be sure. My doc's practice is VERY strict with the schedule and what they're looking for so that we don't have medical issues related to too few nutrients.

yeah, it could be blood sugar or even low blood pressure. And Wendy is right, Gentle strength training is a plus. Tai chi is great! the point is a little every day is better than a lot (exercise) a few days a week, it builds your strength in the entire body. I did it before surgery and after. I felt it helped with my recovery. I still want to begin aerobics but this was a good fill in, I want to continue it as part of my regime....so how far off topic did I get this time? heehee!

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for the comments. I don't have my blood work until next month, but I will mention everything to my family doctor.

I would love to Tai Chi!!!!! Maybe I can find somewhere local to do this.
