    Default Perth Newbie

    Hi Guys,

I am new to the site and have been readign the posts as a guest. i have been overweight my whole life and have lost teh weight and gained it all back. at my smallest i was 80kg i dont know how much i was at my largest because i neevwer stepped on teh scales but now i am at 105kg as at friday. i went to see my doctor on friday and asked him to refer me to a surgeon to discuss my options. i live in perth and signed up to PHI on 5/12/2013. unfrotunately i do not have the money to pay for the surgery and so i will have to wait for the 12 months and pay the gap fee. i have already booked in to see Dr Dolan for a consult on Moday 6th January 2014. by then i would have another 10 months to go before th surgery which is fine because i want to set my mind right for it. i want to exercise lightly as frequently as possible - probably walk once or twice a day and also make sure i eat better. i want to have the surgery because i need help - im worried fo rmy health - my future children and my relationship.
i am eself conscious and now more than ever as i try to make a mark in my career - i feel like its holding me back.
    im 24 and 159cm.
ideally i would love to have the surgery as soon as possible but these things happen and i am happy to wait and learn and grow form the xperience leading up to the surgery.
if anyone has any stories to share - especially from perth - that would be awesome.
also from all teh posts - Dr Dolan seems very abrupt but good at his work - has anyone had him and also has anyone done it at SJOG?

I had my surgery last week at Joondalup Hospital. My Doctor referred me to a private Doctor who will do the surgery as a public patient. All I paid for was the specialist appointments which I got most back on Medicare. The whole operation cost me about $200. You have to get a referral from your GP. I only waited about 5 months for my Op compared to having been on the Sir Charles Gardiner hospital list for 5 years. My Surgeon is absolutely wonderful. I cannot thank him enough for what he has done for me.

    Hi there
I'm also from Perth, had my surgery 4 weeks ago and have not looked back. Had my sleeve done at SJOG Subiaco and was so well looked after.
    Good luck with your journey.

Hi i was wondering if you could tell me the name of the doctor who did your surgery? So you went to a private doctor who put you on a public list?

Hi im from Baldivis, Rockingham and like you i had to wait till i could have it done through HBF. Don't stress that time does go quickly and is well worth the wait, dont make the mistake i made and eat like crazy till surgery start getting into that mind set of eating less. My Doctor was Dr Couch he does his surgery in Perth as well and is very nice. Coast for the gap was $3500 but apparently i get $600 back from the gap.

    Hi Mandy
I am 12 days post op now and feel great. The first 2 days were tough but I was in SJOGM connected to a pain pump which made life bearable. Since then it has been really straight ford. The drain incision took a little longer to heal than the 4 others but it is now nice and dry. I have had no signs of infection or leakage . My only complaint about the surgery is that I think my shoulder was yanked a little hard and it is now tender around the joint - I am off to physio for it. I am just finishing up the liquid phase and am excited for the next part . I drank a lot of Protein Revival/P30 during the liquid phase as I found it really hard to get protein in. If you have any questions, please ask

Goodluck for next month, I hope your surgery is super smooth and totally as planned.
