I was sleeved on 11/12 at Mi Hospital by Dr Ortiz and Morales. The hospital is small but clean and efficient. Thankfully I had great nurses. They listened and made sure I was taken care of. My favorite one even blew on my incisions after cleaning them with alcohol. She was very gentle and nice. The hospital is not as nice as ones in the US but it was fine. I liked it bc it was small and the nurses only had a few patients each. They were always available and checking in on me. Every medicine the gave me was discussed before they put it in my IV. EVERY TIME. I declined the pain meds bc I wasn't in pain and didn't want to be groggy.
The Drs were phenomenal. The anesthesiologist made me call down and gave great instructions on what was going to happen. I saw either Dr Ortiz or Dr Morales 2times a day.
After my second night Abraham picked us up and we went to the Marriott. He then drove us to see some of the town and his friend who makes ice cream. It was AMAZING. From that day forward I have been taken care of at every level. Dr Morales removed my drain and hung out in my room for 45 min talking about all kinds of stuff. He is an OBGYN and does a lot of different surgeries. He assists Ortiz but I think Ortiz assists him on some other types of surgeries. But one thing I am sure of, they truly care about their patients.
Oh and the internet works fine at Mi. The code is 0123456798
bbarnett51 pretty much sums up my experience in TJ. I had great care and both docs were on hand and available. Both took a lot of time with me, answering questions and making sure I was comfortable. I hope your surgery and post op goes well! Good luck!
Lest it sound like I had complaints regarding all the nurses, or my surgeons, or my whole experience at Mi Doctor - I took issue with the skill set of some of the nurses, and had a huge issue with attitude, passive aggressive or downright hostile from a couple. I routinely had to stop care givers from using latex gloves, and frequently synthetic gloves were not available. Same with trying to give me meds I reported being allergic to. I could have afforded to pay more for the surgery for it to be done at Hospital Angeles, and if I had a more accurate picture into how things really were, I think I would have. I wanted to go with Dr. Lopez because I researched his background & qualifications and so my choice was Mi Doctor. I don't regret my choice of surgeon at all.
I may be just a set in her ways war horse, I have been an RN for decades and I wouldn't settle for seeing a colleague treat a patient poorly and I sure as heck won't stay quiet about poor care when the patient was me. Some of the nurses were great. So take it for what it's worth, I figured someone else may benefit from me speaking up.
Let your coordinator know of your concerns - maybe she will have info for you on definite improvements. I am told they had a huge meeting with hospital administration regarding complaints. Not just mine, there have been many other complaints as well that they have been made aware of.
I am told that they demanded all the staff wear name tags. Yes of course that is important. But it was presented as a way to know "who the complaints are about, so they can do something." Well, there is the name report but I told them what night I had the bad issues and that it was the 2 nurses who were caring for me that night. I could describe them. They must keep a log or be able to go back and know who the nurses were that were assigned to a patient, right? It isn't rocket science, look at who signed off meds for the patient or the name of the nurse who charted / even if there isn't an assignment sheet kept - which would always happen here but I don't know about Mexico.
Dr. Lopez does surgery in 2 other cities, the prices are higher but I believe the facilities may be better. Tijuana has no JCI hospitals. The coordinator will hopefully be able to set your mind at ease or maybe they will have their own staff hanging around more just to keep an eye. That or could your husband go with you?
Luann, I am sorry you had a hard time during your stay at Mi Hospital. However, I can't say enough praise about how well I was treated! The doctors were great, the nurses were great, they only complaint I had was that our window faced the BUSY freeway and it was SUPER noisy. I have very little pain and so far the whole experience was good. I would totally recommend A Lighter me and Dr. Ortiz!
I was sleeved 11/11 at MiDoctor by Dr.Ortiz. I'm a nurse so know what to look for in terms of good care. I had a wonderful experience. The nurses were very good. They told me their names. The wound care was very good. They told me what meds they were giving me. I felt safe. Some things were done differently, but different does not mean better or worse. I highly reccomend MiDoctor, A Lighter Me, and Dr.Ortiz.
1 more issue - I have a post op infection growing drug resistant pseudomonas. It is partially sensitive to bactrim, which I am on right now, but only IV antibiotics cover this organism completely. I met someone who had surgery at Mi Doctor, who told me their infection cultured out as the same organism. I suspect there is a problem with sterilization of instruments or some process in the OR is leading to contamination.
