Default cracker alternative for the carbophobe (me)

So, I have crushed my carb cravings, but I occassionally want a cracker or something to eat with my laughing Cow wedge or cheese. A girl can only eat so much low fat deli meat! I really don't want to get back on the carb train, so have been very careful about what I eat.

Yesterday, I found a really good product that seems to fit the bill, without adding a lot of carbs or using flour....and it contain rice and soy. It's called Sesmark Savory Rice Thins (gluten free). Comes in a thin pack and the Nutritional values are: Serving size 16 crackers, Calories; 130, Carbs; 24 and Protien: 3. The Carb count scared me at first, but then I realized that 4 crackers were sufficient for my portion and offered me exactly what I wanted. I had 4 crackers with my chicken salad last night and they were really tasty and also crunchy. The 4 crackers amounted to: Calories: 33, carbs : 6, Protein: 1.

I got these at Food Lion, so I'm sure many of the othe grocery stores have them, along with several sites on line to purchase in bulk. The were $2.99, which seems like a lot but divide that by 12 servings of 4 crackers, it's only $.25 per serving. Lord knows I've paid much more for much less! lol They also have lots of other flavors....... Hope you get a chance to try them if your looking for a crunchy, cracker type option!

    Hi Lorna,

Carbs will be my Waterloo, so it's encouraging to read your post. I can bypass sweets, but the salty snacky stuff? my crack. Its funny, I woke up this morning wondering if gluten free products were allowed and would take the place of what I now consume when it comes to bread/pasta type foods. I need to start a list of questions to take to the Dr.

Those crackers are ridiculously delish! They do make a good snack with a cheese stick or a Laughing Cow wedge. Good call!!!

And let me add. Kavli thin crispbread. 3 pieces are 0 fat, less than 1 gr. sugar, 10 carb, fiber 2g,protein 1 gr. I only eat one piece as they are a good size.
Very tasty with tuna and egg salad.

Wow! thanks for this. I love crackers with my tuna. I will be looking into buying these when I finally reach my solid food stage.

Thank you for the info! I can't eat that cheese or chicken salad without putting it on something. The melba toast I have been eating is too much!

I am so proud of you! You are staying on track and looking at labels, so very important in this journey. I am 2 years out and about 6 months ago felt very invincible to weight gain and got a little lazy about reading info...and gradually put on 10 lbs (from 85 lb loss). UGH! So for the past month I have been on this blog again, and diligent about the basics, and have lost 5 of those pounds, yay! Thank you for the info because I am a carb freak too and need to calm my cravings with good choices!
