Default Super Morbid Obese - I Feel Like A Monster

    Hello Everyone:
This is my first time posting. I have never felt sad about being me and I have been fat my whole life but seeing those words just makes me feel awful. I have been trying for almost 3 years to get the lap band and finally last week my claim was denied and I don't want the gastric bypass so I have opted to have the the gastric sleeve.

    Lily,

I can imagine that those are tough words to hear. My BMI is over 38, and I was shocked at that. Ypu've found the tight place for support & encouragement, so I hope you'll stick with us through your sleeve journey! Blessings to you! :-)

I only met my father's mother once, when I was 12 years old. I had seen photos and 8mm movies of her when she was younger. My father took me to see her and she was bedridden because she had gotten so big she couldn't walk anymore, 600+ pounds. In the movies, she seemed so vibrant and full of life, and I always mourned the loss of the stories she could have told me, the secrets about my Daddy growing up, and so on.

I never thought differently about her because of her size, just sadness that I didn't ever get to know her...

This is a great group of people here of all sizes, very supportive and eager to share. We come from all walks of life, and each brings a variety of experiences we cal all benefit from.

Please don't call yourself a monster, I would have never dreamed to think something like that about my grandma. Or my mother, or my brothers or sister or daddy... or even a stranger. I know it seems silly, but I am crying for the pain you must feel.

Remember Lily, there are people who love you and care, and strangers that care too! I am one

You are NOT a monster! Beauty is not a number on a scale. Sleeve surgery is a better choice for those with a super high BMI as you will have the potential for more weight loss than with the band. I don't know how much weight you have to lose but I have lost 162 lbs so far and have surpassed my goal. You will find lots of support here. Welcome!

A monster? I doubt that very seriously. I bet you're one of the kindest, friendliest, people that others are blessed to meet, but somehow you think the worst of yourself! Hang in there and take it one day at a time. I have my surgery on Nov. 20th and I'm so excited to finally feel better not only health wise, but for my self esteem as well. I've always felt comfortable with myself until I hit 250. Yes, I always wished I was thin like my little sister, but I knew I was the kinder one and I was happy with that. I am glad your insurance approved the sleeve. I wanted the sleeve, but my physician persuaded me to get the gastric bypass because the weight should come off faster. My health is so bad I need for it to.

You're at the right place for support and information. Read a lot and ask all the questions you'd like. I'm praying you'll keep us posted and looking forward to the day that you don't see yourself as a monster. YOU are a beautiful person! Much success as you travel along this new journey in life!

When I went in for my pre-op at the hospital, I saw those same words written on all my documents and it shocked me. For some reason, I have never really had self image issues. I mean sure I would have liked to have been thinner, but I guess I always envisioned myself to be smaller than I really am/was. Those words stared me in the face and jump started my mission - I can do this! I will do this! I want this! Let those words motivate you, too! None of that monster business...you are you and you will be an improved you! Ready, Set, GOOOOOO!!!

You are not alone there are plenty of people who are over weight. God loves you and He made you just the way you should be. The sleeve was the best decision I ever made. As the weight starts coming off you will feel so much better. Before surgery I felt so bad about myself. My back was under so much stress I couldn't walk far b4 I had to sit and take some pressure off. And I had knee surgery so that was another factor. I was so ashamed of myself because I had let myself get so big I would sit at the end end my bed and watch t.v and as I did I could see myself in my dresser. And when my boyfriend would bring my food to me I remember thinking all the time he is coming to feed me like I am a dog and he would leave because he was working or finding work to do on the side to help out. He would always call or come and check on me and make sure I eat because I take so much medicine. But as the weight started coming off I stopped hiding in the house. It feels so good when people say girl you dropping that weight you look good!!! It will get better. It's not gonna always be easy but it's worth it!!! I don't feel like my kids are ashamed of how big I am anymore. I did something about it. This is my life and I choose a healthier happier me. Good luck!!!!!!

I got a "morbidly obese" title. It was extremely hard to hear and say those words! I can relate to your pain. But you are not a monster! You are here to get support and that is what you will get Kudos to you for moving forward and not letting the denial of the lap band stop you! Best wishes!!
