Gatric Sleeve Questions

Hi I'm in the first steps of getting a gastric sleeve and I have a million questions! I see the doctor on 10/22, but I was wondering if anyone could answers a few of these questions....any help would be appreciated!

What happens when you are done losing weight? Will you continue to lose weight with the gastric sleeve or do you maintain?

Can you pregnant after having a gastric sleeve?

How much can you eat with a gastric sleeve?

What if you over eat?

Can you drink when you eat?

Everybody is different, and every DR will tell you something different!

What happens when you are done losing weight? Will you continue to lose weight with the gastric sleeve or do you maintain? .

You do get to a point where you are maintaining instead of losing!

Can you pregnant after having a gastric sleeve?
Yes, you just have to make sure you are getting your normal protein in, which you should be doing anyways (some people don't which causes issues like malnutrition and hair loss). I asked this at my appointment also!

How much can you eat with a gastric sleeve?
4-6 OZ. Typically around 4 - 2OZ of lean protein and 2 OZ of veggies (you should be cutting out all carbs, some people eat them periodically but they are SUPER bad for you, even more so after being sleeved)

What if you over eat?
You will get sick. Throw up, bad gas, diarrhea.

Can you drink when you eat?
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! No drink 30 Minutes before and NO drink 30 minutes after. It washes the food through the stomach not allowing it to absorb the nutrients, can cause you to over eat, or make you feel fuller faster but you really arent and you eat again sooner than needed taking in too many calories.

When you reach goal you go on maintenance which typically is a few more calories than when you are losing. Someone on maintenance could probably answer that better for you.

Yes, you can get pregnant after your sleeve. In fact, your ability to get pregnant increases with weight loss so watch it unless this something you are intending.

Typical you can eat about 4 oz but this varies from person to person and how long is has been since surgery.

If you overeat you will regret it.......that simple. You will either be very miserable or throw it up. It takes a little time to figure out when to stop but most people figure it out easily enough.

No you should not drink when you eat. This washes the food down and removes the full sensation and you will be looking for something to eat.

Kareen....just to add to their answers. I think most literature advises you to wait at least a year to get pregnant. Your doctor can advise on the specifics for that.

I stopped losing around June. I've been easily maintaining between 133-136 since then.

My doctor also told me 1 year before getting pregnant.
