Any rent news on Jerusalem Hospital. I want to have surgery March 3rd, 2014 and need advise. If anyone has current, or recent, information about any of this facility. This is will be my for surgery ever in my life and I am scared of infections!! I have spoken with my provider, and she wants to start me on an antibiotic regiment prior to my departure as a precaution. Could someone please ease my mind.....Corey

I had one of those cases from Mi Doctor in November - my infectious disease specialist thought it had to have come from the OR. It was a very deep infection, not from getting the incision contaminated. Pseudomonas is a water loving organism, one possibility is it was from contaminated irrigation solution.

I finally got the ok to stop doing the wound packing & dressing changes - it closed up but it still has something brewing inside. I saw my doctor last week & she opened it back up to let drain out some horrible solid stuff. I never went on IV gentamicin, which is the only thing this bug is covered by. My doctor put me back on bactrim - it was what she prescribed before I saw the ID doctor. I hope it does the trick - she thought it helped despite the fact it doesn't cover the infection completely. I really don't want to do the gentamicin unless it is a life / death situation. It has all kinds of serious side effects possible, loss of hearing, permanent vertigo, kidney damage / failure, and also running the risk the infection could then become resistant to this med as well.

This was something I would have liked to avoid. I did my research, etc, but if people don't speak up about problems then no one else can be forewarned.
I really hope they have discovered the source of this & no one else has to go through this.
