Is there anyone on here from Jackson, MS and surrounding area?
I lived in Jacksonville, FL until recently and did not want to change programs with only a month before surgery. I also live in Pearl. Good Luck!
Thanks. Looks like you did pretty good pre-op. I chose to go to Mobile for the cost' There are 3 programs in the metro area and the cheapest is $13,750
I started with the one at St Dominick, paid $300 just to see the surgeon and he was a jerk! Didn't like him at all, and then he wanted me to have a scope done, and this and that, and none of the test he wanted were covered in the self pay. Although my insurance would cover the teat under medical I still would have to meet my deductible and my 20% co-pay. At the very least, another $1000. My friend in Mobile went to University of South Alabama Medical Center, their self pay is $11,900 and that includes BLIS insurance. I went on line and watched the video of my doctor's seminar and he was seemed awesome. This place is a "enter for excellence" I am excited and scared. Especially reading post-op post. I kind of though maybe I shouldn't read them, I am not scared of the surgery, just scared of knowing how to eat afterwards.
I read the post close to surgery date and wanted to back out. But I went for it. I an not going to sugar coat it for you the first few days were rough but each day gets better. I am still trying to figure the food thing out. I had Milked down pudding with protein powder added, cream of chicken soup with protein powder added, EAS carb advantage shakes and New Whey Liquid Protein (they taste horrible but I need the protein) the first week. Starting today I am having Mac & Cheese with Protein Powder added, Refried beans and Chicken with garlic and herb cheese spread. I put both the mac & Cheese and the chicken in t food processor to make it pureed. I like the chicken cold but I am also going to cook it to see how that tastes. As for insurance I was luck in that my insurance (should) paid for all but my copay which was 200 a day in the hospital. I will have to see once the bill comes in.
I live in Hattiesburg. I am going to the clinic in Ocean Springs in December for the initial visit. If my insurance doesn't pan out, I may look into the mentioned Mobile AL hospital. It is much cheaper there than in Mississippi. In Miss, it cost 14,000 at the places I checked out.
I am even thinking of going to Mexico to have it done. I just want it done.
