    Default H2O......Kidney Stones......

So here's my dilemma. I've just begun this journey towards getting my surgery and can't wait. I have heard from various people and read on these message boards a lot about not liking water etc or not getting enough.

I drink upwards of 64 to 120 ounces of water a day. This all started in August of 2012 when I found out I had a 9mm kidney stone outside of my right kidney. I never drank an ounce of water before then. Now - I drink enough water to keep two people hydrated.

My questions here is.........how do I effectively after the surgery get enough water in so that I can make sure I don't produce another kidney stone? Any one out there have any thoughts?

I have not had any trouble getting my 64 oz and beyond in. I start from the time I wake up in the morning and I sip...sip....and sip some more. It's constant and consistent. I think that's been key for me....

I'd say the same way you've been doing it since 2012-just drink. I personally have always preferred water to anything, although I love unsweet tea and coke zero, but since I started my journey it's been nothing but water. I wake up every morning, grab a 16oz bottle from the fridge-I buy them in cases-drink on it till it's gone, get another one and start all over-drink till gone, then get another one and do the same, and I sip it, not gulp. By the time bedtime comes I have some left and keep it by my bed on my nightstand and if I wake up I have something to sip on if I want to.To me, getting the water in is not an issue and I have not been dehydrated yet....knock on wood. And the amount you are currently drinking is plenty, even if you can't get that much in-120oz just keep a bottle with you at all times and you'll be close.

I'd say for you that it's such a habit that you won't have any trouble. Start early and constantly sip sip sip and you'll be well hydrated.

I'm almost sure kidney stones are a result of the things we eat and how the body processes them...since that is about to radically change, possibly the risk of the stones will also be reduced?

So drinking gallons of water may no longer be an issue, as long as you do stay hydrated.

    According to Wikipedia:
"Dietary factors that increase the risk of stone formation include low fluid intake and high dietary intake of animal protein, sodium, refined sugars, fructose and high fructose corn syrup, oxalate, grapefruit juice, and apple juice."

Thank you Sandra I actually do drink only and a lot of water. I drink approximately 100-125 oz of water daily. I know after surgery it is tough to get 64 oz in - so I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had the surgery whose had kidney stones in the past and how its going for them
