    Default Feeling Crappy

I had my lap-band removed Monday. The surgery went well and I was home before noon. However the last 2 days I have felt really crappy. Shaky, headache, sweating, nauseous, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, gas. I haven't been drinking enough so part of this could be dehydration (I know the headache is), so that is my goal for today.

I just wanted this surgery and this part of my life to be over and done with and I could move on to getting sleeve surgery. My surgeon requires 90 days of healing between removing the lap-band and doing the sleeve surgery. Given how I feel I am really glad both surgeries were not done at the same time. I was having A LOT of eating problems with my band, so I guess it was unreasonable of me to think after surgery everything would just be hunky dori. Well thanks for listening(er, reading) I just needed to gripe and vent.

Hang in there! Very important to recover before taking on your sleeve. I just had surgery Tuesday and doing great but I would not want to do this without being healthy first. Take care of yourself and get lots of rest.

Feel better and try to get those fluids in. If not better Ina day, I would call your doc. Maybe you need something for the nausea.

Thanks all. My husband convinced me to call the dr. Dr said that it is likely a stomach bug, but also said that surgery can cause lactose intolerance. I have been drinking protein shakes made with milk, and I once had lactose intolerance caused by a reaction to some meds and this is similar. He also said to come in on Tuesday if I'm still having problems and if it gets worse to go to the ER.

So I'm on the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) diet for 48 hrs, and no dairy for at least a week. Fingers crossed it gets better.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Did you have issues with your lapband? I was considering lapband vs. sleeve when I met with my surgeon and he recommended the sleeve for me. I'm glad I did the sleeve. Seems like lots of folks have issues and have had them removed. Good luck in your recovery and for your upcoming sleeve!

Yes I had issues with my lap-band. I know that it works for some people, but I would not recommend it to anyone. I had my lap-band in for 6 yrs and lost 35 lbs initially but then gained 20 back. In the end it slipped and I found out that it was not working for A LOT of people. My surgeon recommended that I consider gastric sleeve. After a lot of research, I agree and have started that journey.

I have been amazed how well I fell since my surgery. Of course the first few days were not great but still they were better than I had expected. I'm so glad I went with the sleeve. I was a little worried about most of my stomach being removed but I felt even more worried about having a foreign object in my body and the maintenance of the fills. Good luck with everything and keep us posted on your progress!

I am sorry you are feeling so crappy.. I hope you will feel better tomorrow..

May I ask you how long you had your band and how did you know it wasn't working? My husband has had a gastric band for 7 years he recently started having reflux so he's getting it checked in 2 weeks time.

The band almost certainly saved his life.. He lost half his body weight and his enlarged heart became normal again so it served him well.. I hope your recovery is fast and your sleeve will do the trick for you. I am very happy with mine. I look like a new person one I never thought would ever be possible again..
    All the best Hev

I had my band for 6 years. I had been having bad reflux, foods getting stuck that hadn't before and pain behind my breastbone. The reflux got worse first for about a month then the rest started.
