Default The start of my GSV Journey!

I am starting my VSG journey on 9/16/13 so im still about 3wks pre-op and about a week away from my 2wk pre-op liquid diet. That part I think is gonna be the start of this uphill battle I decided to take upon. My biggest problem is how much I love food, so far I have lost a little over 20lbs since the Dr. put me on 2 protein shakes a day. That in it self is a big deal for me since I have been heavy all my life. Only time will tell where this journey takes me, but im ready to take it HEAD ON!!!

Keep your eyes on the goal, if you start your liquid diet and just have to have a few bites then do a few but stay strong.. It is so worth it after it is all over and you are up and at it again.. ) Welcome aboard!

I'm getting sleeved on 9/16, too!!! We are sleeve siblings, lol! My doctor only has a 3 day pre-op diet and even that isn't all liquid, so I'm not sure what to tell you on that part. Welcome aboard and I look forward to following your journey! =)

No, he's a pretty laid back dude. I asked him why so many peeps that I've talked on this forum have anywhere from a month pre-op diet to no pre-op. He said the idea is to shrink the liver so it's not as much in the way. I actually watched a youtube video of the VSG surgery (pretty cool to watch, actually) and they use a tool to kind of hold back the liver. Anyway, he said any little bit helps but that he is a realist and doesn't think his patients will stick to something that long since that is why they are having surgery to begin with. He feels anyone can handle 3 days, though. I did start my own kind of thing last week which was just replacing one to two meals a day with protein shakes.

I just survived the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I had my surgery 3 days ago. The liquid diet was challenging but I was able to follow through with it. I just made sure that I was always sucking on a protein drink. That way I hardly ever experienced any real hunger.
