Hi everyone. I have been reading this forum for 2 months and have learned so much from it. i had my sleeve feb 4 and have so many questions.
What questions do you have? The first week you basically feel a bit crappy and uncomfortable. I didnt have any pain but did feel like I had been jostled around on a rollercoaster. The most important thing you can do is sip, sip, sip! I bought a 2 ounce shot glass and made sure I finished one every 15 minutes.
By the second week, you feel a bit more human. The swelling in your stomach is going down and you may start to feel anxious about being able to get your protein in. Dont freak out because you cant get it all in everyday. I will be easier when you can start adding in some real foods like yogurt and cottage cheese. Egg drop soup was my best friend at this point. I added unflavored protein powder to it. Regular soups worked too...tomato was awesome and I would add a bit of finely shredded cheese to it to boost the protein even more.
The third week I had my first stall that lasted 10 days. Thats when I also decided weighing everyday was not going to work for me. I weigh on Mondays but occasionally check my weight on Fridays too. It is very easy to get discouraged when you hit a stall....I still do. But I also know I am doing what I am supposed to do and just carry on. I was very anxious my third week because I wanted to see huge losses but didnt. It is very easy to try and compare your loss to everyone elses. Try not to do that because it will make you miserable.
By the fourth week I had found my groove as far as my eating schedule. What works well for me is to have protein every three hrs. I tend to get a bit lightheaded when I dont. I was on full foods at that point. Chew, chew, chew! I stayed basically with chicken and turkey. Ground beef gave me issues until the middle of month two. Just take things slow. Add a new food every day to see how your pouch will handle it.
It is an emotional time that first month. I ordered a book from Amazon called The Emotional First Aid Kit by Cynthia Alexander. It is all about emotional issues with food for people that have had weight loss surgery. I have read it several times!
Dont be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here was new once too. Best of luck on your journey:-)
