I get sleeved next week, but I've been reading that people can only drink 1-2 ounces of protein drink every few hours. How do you get in all your protein? Thanks, Kathy
The 1st couple of days will be your hardest. I used the whey protein shot(42g protein) from Walmart cut with water and added crystal lite. I do this in a 20oz bottle.
You just sip all day...don't feel you have to drink anything all at once. That's where the advise of walk walk walk and sip sip sip comes from.
I used...and still use Unjury protein powders. They have work best for me. Each scoop has 23g of protein...mix with 8oz of water or skim milk. You only have to drink three of those to get your protein in and you have all day to do it. The liquids from the protein drinks also count towards your 64 oz of liquids....so now you only need to add two more bottles of water.
You will get used to carrying a drink around with you. Three months out and I don't leave the house without a bottle of water.
Another hint...get a cup with a lid on it....it blocks the smell of the protein.
Hi, the first week my doc wasn't worried about protein as much as staying hydrated. BUT, the second day out of the hospital i could drink normally. I couldn't chug, but I a was able to drink like I normally would. Some are able and some are not. I had 3/4 bottle of Isopure and one EAS ready made shake because it was think enough for me to get down pretty quick. Then, water, water, water. Depending on how big your bougie is you might be able to drink normally.
My doc doesn't use the smallest size to prevent the choking, not being able to drink, discomfort, etc. Which has turned out fine, I don't think it has slowed down my weight loss at this point.
Good Luck!
I'm 12 days post op and it takes me about 20-30 minutes to drink a RTD Premier Protein (30g protein) shake. I also add the unjury unflavored protein to a lot of the food I eat to get the rest of my protein. I've been able to get in about 60-70 grams of protein a day since about 5 days post op. I can also take normal size drinks since about 4 or 5 days post op. I can't guzzle, but I can take a normal drink and then another one a minute or two later without any discomfort. I have no problem getting in my 64 oz of water daily, but I have always loved water and drank a lot of it even pre-surgery.
My surgeon gave us 1 oz medicine cups. Before we left the hospital, we had to show we could drink one 1 oz cup every 5 minutes. I went home with a bunch of medicine cups and used those for drinking everything.
Watering down your protein shakes helps with getting them down. I usually use 2x as much water as they recommend even now for my protein shakes.
