    Question On A Mission

    Hi All,

My surgery date is Tuesday, August 6th. I think I am most nervous about getting buyers remorse, regretting my decision. So glad I found this forum for some support! I have to admit I am getting a little scared. I am beginning this journey because I have fibromyalgia, and the best thing for it is to be active, which I am having a hard time doing at my present weight. I am looking forward to getting the weight off my joints and being able to develop some strength back into my body. I have a feeling I will be glued to this site for the next two days!

You are not alone. I have the same feelings off and on and my surgery isn't until August 23rd!! I have issues with buyers remorse and like you, I'm so afraid I'll feel that way about this surgery...but then I remind myself this is going to save my life in more ways than one. Right now, I am doing okay emotionally but I know as my day approaches, my nerves will be out of control. This is all normal, its major surgery. Keep focusing on the positives, you'll do great!! Keep us posted

The fear is the unknown and it's natural to feel that way. Take a deep breath and not thing about the sleeve itself, but the end goal. The sleeve is just the way you are getting to your new self.

    Positive thoughts and speedy recovery!

I had major meltdown the day before surgery and not gonna lie.....I had buyer's remorse! But this will interest you. I was on Lyrica, anti inflammatory and pain pills before surgery and have not taken any since surgery! You will be great!

I lived on these boards for weeks before and after. Definitely poke around and read up on stalls, recovery, etc. It kept me from freaking out with what I experienced. There are times when I wish I could sit down to a huge steak or trough of pasta . . . but then I think about why I would need to eat a pound of pasta, or anything! Food wasn't being used to nourish but to hide and trample down other emotions.

Course, then you have to deal with all the whys!

Here's what I'm still amazed post surgery - I was having horrible shoulder problems. No one diagnosis but everything from frozen shoulder to bursitis (in both shoulders). Since I've lost about 50 lbs I haven't had a single mind numbing stabbing or even niggling pain in my shoulders!

I had my surgery on Monday and I actually sat in the surgery prep bed and told my husband that we could leave and not do it. Even said something to the doc. He said we could cancel for another day. But it was just nerves. Once you are past the pain and exhaustion and start feeling a little better, you won't regret it anymore. You'll start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!

I have never had Buyer's remorse...I don't even understand it but then, I was never sick or in pain. But, I DID change my mind at the last minute...I was getting up on the operating table and as I was being assisted, I was telling the anesthesiologist that "I think I've changed my mind"...he was already injecting some great stuff into my IV and he said, " I know, I know" and was most likely thinking, "Yah, right lady..shut it! Nightynight!" HA! I woke up and was being walked up some stairs to my room (MEXICO! What do you expect!?) and I had to look under my gown to make sure my doc actually did the surgery because I didn't feel any different. He had and the rest...is HISTORY.

I did have buyer's remorse but that was because I had complications and was very ill for several months, including additional hospitalization.

Now that I am finally more or less well, and steadily losing weight, I'm overall glad I did it, but if I had to make this decision again, I would definitely pause and think.

I'd really like to get a 'mommy makeover' at some point, but I will have to think that over heavily. I can't handle another life-threatening recovery.
