I am still 11 days away from surgery, but just wondering...If everything goes smoothly, how long until you can work out with weights/do circuit training, etc. And does it help to keep the sagging under control as you lose?
You will get a lot of different answers on this one.
This is what my doc had me do. Treadmill from day one....for as long as I could go for. I was to work up to 30 minutes at 3mph. No incline. No lifting anything more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks.
After 6 weeks I was released to do anything I wanted.
I also had my gallbladder out at the same time so I don't know if that affected it or not.
I'm able to do cardio machines, elliptical for 15 min and stationary bike for the other 15 min. I'm on weight lifting restrictions too until doc gives the ok, but I find resistance bands are good. I don't do too much walking cause of knee problems, but since the weight has been coming off, doesn't bother me as much as it did
I work with a trainer x 3 a week mainly weights/strength training and ad 4 weeks off .... At 2+ months post op I am now back to my pre-op levels.
For cardio ... I could walk 30 mins at day 2 and run/jog at week one but felt weak ... This improved by week 3 .... Take each day as it comes!!!
Good luck
I am half way through week five I can do Jillian Michaels work out which I must say nearly killed me physically the other day. But I was cleared today to dance ..line dancing.and resume everything .
Really you need to check with your own surgeon as all our surgeons have different approaches.not to mention different diets .. A friend if mine Lee has had same op on the same day and is eating all food, whereas I am not allowed to eat some of the food he is eating for the next 7 weeks. So as I said all surgeons differ and for thier own reasons. Good luck with it all

I thought I was healed enough to begin more activity after about 2 - 3 weeks. I felt great so thought some light yard work would be okay. Trimmed rose bushes and thought I would keel over. At week 3 thought, okay, I should be able to dig a small hole to plant 2 dwarf fruit trees. They're tiny cute little trees. Dug holes, cleared away some small plants, etc. Tore through the barely healed muscles along my abdomen and set myself back weeks. Nothing like 2 full weeks of feeling what felt like a branding iron being pressed along my ribs.
Even up until a month ago (month 4) I would feel pulling while walking on the treadmill.
So, while yes, you need to begin exercise definitely don't push the limits! Allow yourself to heal. Those lifting restrictions are serious!
