    Default Looking for instant resultsI

Today I am 5 days post op gastric sleeve/hiatal hernia repair. I have been lucky enough to not have any nausea or gas pain. I gained 3 pounds during my hospital stay and have only lost 1 pound since I have been home. When can I expect to see some results on the scale? I am walking everyday and getting about 40g of protein in but I am struggling with "head hunger." All the food on TV and the food I am preparing for my family looks and smells so good even though I know I am not really hungry. I stopped drinking from the medicine cup a few days ago but started back today because I felt like I was "drinking too much" at one time and was going to stretching my pouch. Are these feelings normal?

You aren't going to get "instant results" and it will take a few days for your body to process the "injury" done to it as well as the swelling to go down and the IV fluids, which I imagine you got a lot, to be flushed. You will, if you stick to the plan your doctor gave you, begin to see weight loss very soon and it will be rapid, followed by plateaus and stalls, followed by more loss.

Your protein intake is lower then it should be. You want to be at around 60g a day unless your doctor told you otherwise.

The head hunger is perfectly normal. When I flew back to Alaska from Seattle after surgery I sat in first class, wanting to be as comfortable as possible, and they served a really, really good looking and smelling hot turkey sandwich, which I adore anyway. It was sheer torture but I was barely a week post op and still three weeks away from eating solid foods. Once you train your mind and body out of old, bad habits, it will become easier.

The head hunger is the absolute worst thing to get through. But you will day by day. I can tell you it reduced me to tears and then I put on my big girl panties and decided I needed to get over it. Give yourself some time I promise it will get better. Just walk away from the stuff that is bothering you right now. If you have to fix there meals then try making things that won't matter much to you. Good luck to you!!

ALso, my nutritionist told me to take in 75-90 grams of protein per day. Protein helps keep your hunger at bay too because it sticks with you longer. Maybe uping your protein will help u feel fuller, longer.

Stay away from the scale. You are still swollen. I didn't weight myself for 15 days the day of my follow up appt. I was down 21 lbs. the weight will come off give your body some time to heal and stay on the plan the doctor gave you. Walk, sip, rest is the best thing you can do right now. You can do this rock on.

I gained 6lbs from all the fluids they pumped into me after surgery. I was told that I would not be hungry and that was a bunch of bull, lol. I felt hunger but the yogurt and pudding were difficult at first. I did much better with creamy tomato soup and protein drinks. Tea was also better then anything cold. I had my diet expanded last Tuesday and I am struggling to get protein in. A half dollar size serving on shaved turkey is about all I can handle. I have been trying fat free ricotta in small amounts. I can do 1 string cheese and yogurt has been my saviour. The hunger pains have gone away and now I dred my next meal, lol. I can see results and thats all that really matters. My meds are cut WAY back and I am off all insulin which was my major goal. Slow and Steady...baby steps I think I need to put that on the outside of my fridge!
