Newbie - Just getting started

After 15 years at 195lbs I'm finally ready to do something with real results. I'm interested in the sleeve because food and hunger are my primary obstacles. I love to exercise, I'm active and healthy, but the scale wont budge. I'm so tired of hearing, you have such a pretty face or you're just a big girl. I was never overweight as a child or young adult. I hate being this way and feel like a failure. I'm ready to change my life.

Hi Andrea,

You are definitely not a failure. Also by the way, and not to be creepy because I am a man, but I think you look great in your picture. Your husband is crazy! The fact that you are taking this big step to take control of your life says that you have courage and determination. Just keep plugging along with the program and you will definitely lose the weight. Best of luck in your journey. I am at the beginning as well. I get sleeved in a few weeks. You will find people here super friendly and supportive and they will give you all the advice you need. Hang in there.

Good luck in your journey. I know how it feels so I can relate to some of what you are saying. Taking the first step is always the hardest and since you already did it then I'm sure you have a bright future ahead of yourself. Congrats on wanting to change your life for the better.

I was an overweight kid, teenager, young adult. I was hard on myself more than anyone.. But through the years i have truly learned loving and finding yourself is important. If you do anything, it should be for yourself. It sounds like your not being fair to your husband. You said you think he is disgusted with you. Have you asked him? If he is .. I say youre with a pretty shallow man and you don't need to be with him. He could be thinking youre not interested in him. Communication is important in any relationship. good luck in your decisions and remember to love life, you only have one.

Welcome!! You have come to a wonderful place for the support system that your absolutely need. I am also very hard on myself about the weight that I have put on through the years but you know what?...We are so much more valuable than what that stupid scale says Andrea. AND we don't just have a beautiful face. We also have what is even more important..a beautiful soul. You will get to the point where you feel like yourself again, don't worry. Do this for YOU. You will find so much more strength in that. Just take it one day at a time and we are here for you.

Thank you all for your comments and support. This a big decision I've been considering for years. I've tried so many times unsuccessfully that I'm convinced now that I need something more proven. I've done a lot of reading and researching. I'm looking for a doctor now. I'm self pay, so cost is critical. I'm originally from Colombia and I'm considering getting the procedure done there. I plan to have it done in August if all goes well.

I have a date for my surgery. Ausust 12th! So excited. I'm having the operation in Medellín, Colombia where I'm from, so I get to enjoy my family while there in addition to starting my new life....I guess its appropriate that I begin my new life in the city that birthed the old me as well. I'm so excited!!!
