Default Has anyone else experienced this Post-OP problem?

So I am around 5 weeks post op, and the last 2 or 3 weeks I have been experiencing some major light headedness, and dizziness. Also the last week, week and a half I have been experiencing some serious nausea. I've been dry heaving and throwing up pretty much anything I eat. And because of that I don't eat, not because I am afraid to, but because it doesn't stay in for long enough.

As well as me not having the urge to eat food when I'm not even hungry. The only thing that seems to stay in is water, low calorie gatorade or vitamin water. I know that because I am not able to consume the nutrients, and proteins I need are effecting my energy level.

But I am very confused why I am having this nausea problem. I have looked many places online, for other blogs and such, and I cant find anything. Also, it feels like I have heartburn 24/7.... I am taking the anti-acid medication my doctor prescribed, but it's not helping. Help!

I had to up my reflux med to 2x a day. It helped my throwing up. Started protein shakes yet? That helped with my lightheadedness. Maybe get some Zofran from your dr. I had to take that for almost. 3 most post op.

Everything u described sound identical to what I experienced a year and a half ago. There is an adjustment period for your new stomach. Believe me, it will go away. If you are able to get down your liquids and chew you gummy vitamins, soon you will be able to get small amount of purée foods. I did the baby food since its already puréed. There are stages of adjustment before your're able to really keep everything down. Each day it will be a little easier. Remember, you've had major surgery and your body need time to adjust and more importantly, to heal. Make sure you tell your doctor everything you are going through. He should know and be able to help you through it. I know how you feel, but I took my adjustment one day at a time. The decision to have the surgery and to follow thru with the surgery was huge steps, but now you're on the result side and it requires you to really take care of yourself. Your message about what you are going through shows you a paying attention to your body and that's good. It's time to fight for your new body. It's not going to be easy, but the payout will be great. You can do this! It will get easier its just the first phase of the journey. I hope I've helped. Stay strong and I pray that you talk to your dr for anything your're going through. I did.

I had no issues with pureed food after surgery, and was handling soups just fine.... this issue just happened suddenly... and now Im having the issue. My stomach won't even hold down the protein shakes. I feeling like my body is going in reverse rather than forward!

Sounds like a call to the doctor is needed. Unless you have a throw up virus??

Any chance you've picked up some other illness/virus?

    Any chance your pregnant?

Whatever - get to see your doc quickly; it could just be a blip along the way, but it could be something that needs looking at.

    Keep us posted!

Apparently my gull bladder lining is very thick and that might be causing it. I could not wait a week to see my surgeon so I went to the emergency room!

Vanessa, do you are you lightheaded or dizzy upon standing? If so it could be a blood pressure issue! Get it checked out! I had this issue and my doctor reduced my blood pressure meds -- the symptoms disappeared. When we lose weight quickly it can change our blood pressure and high blood pressure is something that changes quickly with weight loss!

I still get indigestion but it's better. I take Prilosec twice a day, TUMs, Maalox and Gas-X. (check with your doc first before taking any of these)

Are you getting your fluids in?

Did they do an upper GI? This sounds a lot like what happened to me a couple week postop, and it turned out to be a stricture. I would still contact your surgeon. A lot of times ER docs aren't up to date or not familiar with bariatric patients and the problems that can occur, so things get over looked. In the meantime, keep sipping, sipping, sipping. The last thing you want is to get dehydrated.
