    Default Raw Juice After Sleeve

Anyone here into drinking raw, fresh squeezed juices? I'm wondering if you've been able to have those after the sleeve and/or how tolerable it has been to have them and at what point you were able to start.

    All The Best,

Juice isn't all that good for you. Loaded with simple carbohydrates. Might as well drink flat pop.

Plus, unpasteurized juices are constantly being recalled due to bacterial problems. I wouldn't want to risk food poisoning in my little stomach. *shudder*

what if you made the juice yourself? that way you know it doesn't have anything added to it, and you drink it right away?

Number one rule for sleevers who are past the liquid diet stage is DO NOT DRINK YOUR CALORIES!!!!!!
You will not get satiety and that is what will stop you form overeating.
You can only take in about 600 - 1000 calories at first so do what everyone says and eat your protein first. Then, eat your veggies.
Try to cut WAY back on fruits (I didn't have any for months), and avoid carbs as best you can. (no potatoes, rice, bread, cereal, etc -- even whole grain)
Those are the rules as I learned them. They work. Don't try to bend the process because, if you are anything like me, you will end up breaking down and lose your control over food again. It happens. A LOT.
Best of everything -- it's a great, healthy idea but I think it's one to hold off on until you reach your goal. Personal opinion only.....
    Hugs

I do. I don't have any trouble with them. One of my faves is spinach, carrot, cucumber, banana, apple, strawberry.

If you make your own juice, you are still just drinking simple carbs.

All the benefits of fruit are gone when you juice the fruit. The healthiest part of fruit is the fibre. You don't get the fibre when you remove the juice from the fruit and only consume the juice part.

And, Gayle is 100% right. DO NOT DRINK YOUR CALORIES! (Sorry for shouting but this really needs to be repeated. LOUDLY!)

If you want fruit, eat it with some protein. Berries and yogurt. Apples and cheese. Pears and nuts. You get the idea.

Just to clarify in case I scared anyone:

-Fresh juice from real fruits and vegetables staight from my juicer or blender (when you blend it leaves you still with the fiber)
-2/3 veggie, 1/3 fruit (one of my fav combos is watermelon, spinach, carrot or apple, beet, beet greens)

My concern was for if anyone else had trouble tolerating the juices after surgery. I totally understand about drinking your calories. But a juice a day doesn't seem like it would hurt, and actually brings excellent nutritional benefits to the body. If I were to add unflavored protein powder to it (*bing* Idea!), then it would be even better.

I asked my doc about green smoothies during the full liquid phase, he said no problem as long as the veggies and fruit are shredded up fine and it's drinkable, and to add in protien powder.

I like the idea of adding protein powder to it and blending it so you do consume the fiber. It's also a good idea to stick to more veggies than fruits in it too. I'm wanting to start something like this soon. Would love to hear other peoples' experience with it too

Can you blend a raw carrot? I thought it only worked with cooked and the juicer was for raw?

Juice is the extraction of liquid from a fruit or vegetable, without any fibrous parts.

Once you add protein powder to fruit and some other liquid, and you blend it up, it becomes a smoothie (shake), which is a different animal from juice.

If you are just pureeing a fruit or vegetable in a blender, during the full liquid and puree stage of your recovery, I can't see that as an issue. It would add some much needed fibre to your diet, plus fluids. I wouldn't consume too much of this once you are on regular food, though, as it goes back to the "Don't drink your calories" concept.

No, you can't blend a carrot but maybe if they're soft and cooked. Since I have a juicer and a blender, I'm thinking of juicing the veggies and then the bin that collects the fiber, you can add it and the juice into a blender. A way to control the calories and portion size is add control the amount of the fruit, like maybe half a banana and half a small apple; the point is you can control what goes in it and the portion size of it. I'm all for it! It'd be loaded with nutrients. I'm curious, has anyone seen "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" documentary? It's really good and inspiring.

At nine months out, I can still only consume 1/2 a banana or 1/2 an apple. I would not be able to eat both halves in one sitting. So blending them up and combining them into a liquid I could drink would be detrimental because now I could consume twice the fruit I could eat.

    See the slippery slope? LOL
