Default In Mexico had my Surgery

Hi Everyone, It´s Lorna. I was sleeved Wednesday and you´d never know. I´m up & about already. Shopping & sightseeing. LOL!!! I know crazy Lorna!
I was sent back to my hotel last night. The doctor kept me in the hospital for 2 days. The hardest part was the first 24 hrs. The doctor´s were really shocked by my recovery. Right after surgery I awaoke & went to the bathroom by myself. Then the following morning I gave myself a shower like a piece of cake. I have a drain attached to myself and that is the only way you would know something is amiss but I hide it under my clothes.
I´m on full liquids and content with that. I eat very slowly and take tiny sips on a spoon savoring the taste before I swallow.
Be that as it may, I cannot stand protein shakes. As you know from my other messages I brought my blender with me. (mini) So I blend cream of chicken soup with 40 mg. of unflavored protein. I add lowfat milk and I water it down really good to make it the consitency of a protein shake. Then I sip it slowly. So far so good. I also walk around with a tumbler all day. I allow myself two gatorades and the rest of the day crystal light.
There´s a supermarket right next to the hotel and it´s called HEM. It´s basically like a super Walmart in the States. I´m not without want here the supermarket & shopping mall have everything. A money changer, beauty parlor, bank, airline office, stores to browse, everything from soup to nuts.
Monterrey is a modern city with all the comforts of home.
There are many Americans & Canadians in my hotel. Everyone has had their bariatric surgery´s and are in the process of doing their body makeover´s.
Tummy tucks, arm lifts, hinney lifts, thighs, face lifts, you name it.
One woman had a complete body makeover but she told me it was too much on her that she wished she had split everything into 2 or 3 surgery´s.
Most ladies come down & do 2 procedures at a time. I believe that´s the right way to go. However she also told me her complete body makeover cost her $16,000 as compared to $50,000 in the States. I told her she´ll be happy after the pain is gone but I myself would only do 2 procedures at once. It´s too much on the body. She has mutiple drains and compression garments all over her entire body. She told me the more procedures you do at once the cheaper the entire package becomes. Also in Mexico the clinics will keep you for 3 to 4 nights till you get on your feet. Anyhow I´ll be back home on the 8th of Oct. I´m currently using the hotel internet to type this. I may get a chance to check in again. Until then. Lorna

Hi Lorna, that's great news, congratulations!!

They really offer some huge benefits to visit there South of the border, instead of doing the surgeries here in the States. Not a new concept for sure but its great to hear about how busy they are and how much money people are saving.

Anyway, as for you.. again, I'm really happy for you. Here's to speedy recovery (which it will be from the sound of it!), and here's to a whole new you! The best is yet to come, hope to hear about how it progresses and how you drop down to your goal.

I had my surgery in the states, I've always figured that it was much more dangerous to have it done in Mexico or India, even if they have a much lower cost for the surgery.

I was thinking that with the air fare and the hospital stay and the hotel stay pre and post op, I'd end up spending more than having it done here.

    Hi Lorna:

I'm a bit concerned that you were out of bed so soon, doesn't that make you feel woozy and makes the healing slower???

Those are my considerations too. But my first consideration has always been the quality of the surgery, not the cost. It's okay for me to spend more and get a good surgeon than to save up and then regret it later on.

Hi folks, I paid about $11,500 for my procedure. My aifare was $500 and my hotel came to $950 for 12 days.
I used the same surgeon I had 10 yrs. ago with my lapband.
He comes highly recommended. There are no bad blogs about him on the internet. I did a conversion surgery which is high risk and this is why I used him.
However I could have gotten this surgery done much cheaper in Tijuana or Mexico City. And I knew that when I booked my surgeon.
So this is why I used him. If I didn´t do a conversion lapband to sleeve I may have looked for a better deal. Not India of course but somewhere in South America. India´s too far to travel when you live in the USA.

Not to argue with you, but I do think that Mexico has good facilities and people for VSG.

Plus having been the go-to destination and being so near the States, they have had a lot of practice as far as weight loss surgeries are concerned.

Surgeries South of the Border certainly can be quality. They´re not accredited by the American Medical Association but what the heck.
When you have cosmetic surgery in the States most folks can only afford one procedure and they´re in credit card debt for years over it. On top of that you´re sent home from the clinic in a one day surgery because cost´s are so high in the States.
South-of-the-border you are not sent home for 2-3 nights post op until you get on your feet. Folks can come down here and get 2-4 surgeries for the price of one in the States. On top of that if you are high risk a nurse is sent to your hotel room every day after your discharge until you go home to the States. I have not had this problem but the woman across the hall from me has. In my opinion the South American surgerons are very experienced and have a higher turnover of patients than their American counter parts simply because the price of surgery is not out of reach.
Yes, with any surgery you take risks and that holds true of both the US and SA. However if you´re in reasonably good health you´ll pull through it.

Another thing I´d like to bring up is I´ve seen all kinds of foreign tourists down here from the average middle class to the upper-middle class so apparently medical tourism know´s no boundaries. Lorna

Hi Lorna, congratulations on your surgery! What a speedy recovery... I am impressed. All sounds like an easy ride for you, which is what we all hope for.

Being up and active helps with the healing, so you do right to be out and about. I walked the whole grounds of the hospital where I was staying. It stopped me stiffening up too much.

I think trust is a major thing with any surgery and it is over and above any amount. You trusted your surgeon to do the best for you and he has come through. You cannot put a price on that, irrespective of where he does his work.

Good luck with your post op recovery. Speedy weightloss!
