Is there anything wrong with getting more protein than the 40-60 g I am required?
Actually, I asked that question of my nutritionist and she said usually people struggle with getting in the suggested amount at first. I am not sure what you were told to get, but I was told a formula to use to determine would be your weight X 0.3 = the number of grams you should have daily. So the math for your weight that I saw above you would calculate 239 X 0.3 = 71.7 grams (round up to 72 grams).
However if your care team said 40 to 60, then I would ask them your question.
Im struggling to get in 60grams a day right now. My Dr. Wants me to EAT my protien and does not want me to drink them. But you can eat so little just over 2 weeks out that it is so hard to get them in. Eating Eggs, fish and chicken is all i can do right now so I am just doing the best I can with what I have. Still having hard time getting in 64 oz of fluids too. I can manage 48 as lont as I can constantly keep sipping but it is working for me because I am not dehydrating.
OK, thanks everyone! My instructions are 40-60g; If I drink one protein shake, I have 42g of protein in already. Last week on my liquid diet I was averaging 63, yesterday I started my full liquid diet and I had 65, today I already have 43g in. I still have to drink the other half of my shake which will be another 20.5g of protein putting me at 63g. I like that other doctors are saying you can go more and I am going to use the formula Delores512 shared with me, thank you.
Sometimes I hate coming to this site. So many different opinions on stuff. Your doctor wants protein from food, mine doesn't care. I had my one month check up with my surgeon (my daily minimum is 90 grams). She asked if I was getting in my protein and liquid intake. I said, "Yep. No problem at all. I usually get in about 120 grams of protein a day and can drink about a gallon of different liquids." She was quite happy with that.
Then asked about my food intake. I just went to "soft" foods and before that, with the "puree," I really didn't do. Couldn't handle eating my steak like baby food. Anyway, I would eat some turkey chili without beans. I could eat about 2 or 3 tablespoons and that is it. Same when I had a piece of salmon of the other night. Maybe ate 4 oz at best. She said, "I don't expect you to eat much food. You are probably going to get your protein intake from drinks the rest of your life." How funny how every doctor is different.
I use ABB. They have two sizes: 50 grams and 35 grams of protein in them. The chocolate/peanut butter is real good. Another good one is Pure Protein. They have two versions: 35 grams and 23 grams.

I bought "New Whey" liquid protein at Wal Mart. 42g protein in a 3.8oz bottle, I mix with half cup water and some ice. The grape is the best and tastes like kool-aid. I also have a protein shake from GNC called Amplify XL, 41g protein per serving (3 scoops). I have half in the afternoon and half in the evening.
