    Default Need words of encouragement

Hello, I am about 4 weeks and I am still not feeling good. I have problems with eating and a huge problem with Acid Reflux and belching non stop. . I am taking Nexium and the Acid Reflux is slightly better. New problem started last night. Having a hard time swallowing my own saliva, I know gross but I am finding a lot of things with this sleeve gross. I generally have not felt well since before the sleeve. Has anyone experienced the salvia problem? Please someone tell me that this will all go away (approx. when?) and I can enjoy the weight loss. Not enjoying anything at the moment. Bridgette

I am so sorry you are having a rough time of it. We are all looking so forward to a better life and it is the pits that this is happening to you. If I were you I would get on the phone to my doctor and let him or her know now. Don't wait any longer. I will be having my surgery in ten days so I am just speaking as someone concerned for you. I hope anyone who has ran in to this will respond to you. God Bless and wishing you better health. Wendy Mac

Yeah, you better call your doctor. I hope you feel better, it shouldnt be so hard, Im so sorry. Im a month out and Im afraid Im swallowing too easy to fast. I hope you share what you learn after speaking to him. the acid could be causing it but with this its always best to be safe. the ones that I know to have had any major problems with any of the wls are the ones who had something simple but waited to ask thinking it would pass. Best wishes!

Hiya Bridgette - I'm so sorry that you are having problems.. what do you eat on a typical day? Are you chewing, chewing, chewing.. before you swallow? Are you taking very small sips of liquids? (no straws!!) Do you mean you have a dry mouth - that makes it hard to swallow? I've had that a few times, but I just kept drinking my liquids and that seems to help. (popsicles are great for this also) That only happened to me in the first 6 weeks or so, but not all the time. Now (4 1/2 months) post op I rarely have that problem. It probably is a symptom of dehydration - a way to check yourself to see if you are dehydrated is to take your temperature, and pulse. If they are both elevated - that is a symptom of dehydration. I didn't feel all that great my first four weeks.. but every week gets better and soon you will feel normal (i promise) If you are really fatigued - that also is a symptom of dehydration. Do you know how much liquids you are getting in per day? I know i didn't start feeling "like myself" until the 7-8 week post op or so. Like I said - it gets easier as you go on - so just hang in there! Congrats on your surgery! Keep your head up!

    Huggles & God Bless
    ~Bren~

You said you didn't feel well before the surgery? Do you have a sore throat? I agree with everyone else you should call your doctor. I have not yet had surgery, but am on here very much. I wish you well and the 20 lbs you've lost is great!

I had a few problems with along the same lines. I was having a problem at one point where I was making too much salvia and it was causing me to become nauseous. It does get better... trust me. The belching starts to go away too... Really the only long term "gross" things for me are that if I don't chew well enough I get pain/discomfort in my stomach and I am very constipated compared to be surgery. Maybe a little bit more belching, but no heartburn, no acid reflux. I do know though there are people who struggle with the acid reflux no matter what, but at the very least it should get better.

It is the last thing I am struggling with. I will have to talk to my dietician. It is getting slightly better on its own, but still the BMs tend to a bit too large which is obviously an indication that it isn't right.

Thanks everyone for words of encouragement. At this time I am not eating but I am trying to drink a little, I am vomiting everything. Have called my MD, this is not normal.

I think I felt similar to you. I am a couple of months out and it does get easier! It is a massive lifestyle change. I have found sometimes when I am emotional I feel like there is a "hole" that I feel like needs to be filled and food is just a disappointment now. I am learning to deal differently and better but it's a work in progress. My friends that are a year out say they LOVE life now but the first 3-6 months were a struggle.
I have found "white foods" make me sick, every time. Eggs, meat, fish, protein smoothies, Greek yogurt, veggies, broth soups are all good options for me.
Best of luck! As long as you doctor has cleared you, just know that time will make this journey easier.

For constipation I use tea, "Traditional Medicinal" brand its called of all things "Organic Smooth Move Senna Tea". I got mine at Albertsons; Fred Meyers also has it, and I have seen it in one of the chain drug stores. I usually have it 2 or 3 times a week. If you don't have this brand in the UK, maybe you can find something close. Hope this helps. ---Oh, almost forgot. I also started taking a couple of capsules of a green food supplement. That has really helped too.
