Thumbs up StacyE got sleeved - 22/09/2010

    Sunday 26/09/2010
    HI,
It's day 4 and I was discharged yesterday. Apart from feeling really tired I am always thirsty - but have already learned that I can't drink large amounts.
I pulled a Crystal Sherry Glass from the cupboard and have found that the 40ml is the perfect amount. I always have something at the o'clock and o'clock 30 and then if I want more inbetween then I have it.

Still only on apple juice and ribena. Water doesn't seem to want to go down as easily - so must admit I am avoiding, but having once an hour - got to be able to drink water - I've always been a good water drinker.

Pain relief is now 2 panadol every 7 hours. Have not had to take the stronger stuff that they sent me home with.

Scales have not moved in the right direction since the morning of the op. - time will tell.

Trying to walk around as much as I can - got to get back into the exercise as soon as possible.

When I smell my husbands dinner I get hungry and if I think about food then I get hungry but I don't think I am actually physically hungry. Early days and I am keeping a diary about what I am actually doing, drinking so that I have a details reminder for the weeks and months to come.

Thanks for checking out my journey.

    Good luck with yours,
    Stacy E

You will be over that in no time, I was not allowed to have fruit juice for 7 days!
Good luck, take advantage and enjoy everyone caring and doting over you, for the next few week

Thanks Scotty. My doctor did want me to drink ISOPURE - which is a clear protein drink, but the rep he was buying from actually resigned on Friday 24/09/2010 so Dr has to find new supplier!! He said anything I could see through was fine - except Orange juice. The apple juice they gave me in hospital so I got husband to buy more and the Ribena we had at home already.
I have also tried black coffee today with some success. I need to get used to these smaller amounts that's all.
    Regards,
    Stacy

    hi Stacy:

Great to hear that you are doing great, apart from being very thirsty of course.

The trick is to drink more often, taking only sips of liquid all the time. Also, if the thirst really bothers you, you might want to ask your nutritionist about it.

Yes, You have to keep drinking liquids post op so you don´t get dehydrated.
I walk around all day carrying a tumbler full of crystal light.
I also allow myself 2 12oz. Gatorades every day just because I´m recently post-op. When I move on to soft foods I´ll stop the gatorade. It has a lot of calories in it so I switched to ¨powerade¨which still gives you the electrites
post-op. I believe 12oz. Gatorade has 310 calories and Powerade has 72 so today 5 days post-op I made the switch after I did some research on it.

Hey, don't hurry you probably won't see any improvement in your weight for the next week or so. That's normal. Then you will notice that you are dropping the weight, slowly but surely!

    Hi All,
Thanks for your comments. I'm still feeling tired but have started on pureed food - so expect to bounce back soon. Had first appt with dietitian on day 9 - lost 6kg since surgery. Wrapped. Am staying off the scales at home so true measure when weigh in monthly. Am walking daily - up to 22 minutes. Heart rate at about 60% so I'm happy with that for the moment. As I build up stamina will try to raise Heart rate to 65 - 75% for the 1/2 hour that I'm aiming for.

Removed bandages and wounds are doing good. Nurse friend suggested I use Vit E oil (pierce a capsule with a sterile pin) and the scars seem to be fading before my eyes - not that they are large at all. I got 5 in all as Surgery fixed hiatus hernia as well as sleeving me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I appreciate them.
    Best wishes - StacyE

Hi Stacy, thanks for checking in. Glad to hear you are getting better. You'll get through this hard part and the really good part will come when you check your scale each month.

    Congrats on your gastric sleeve!
