Someone always waiting to tear you down

Hello all,

Something amazingly frustrating happened to me today. I stopped by my job for a hot second and found out that no one was working customer service. So I went behind the counter and called the supervisor of that department to see what was up (I work for a mall). Well after finding out that their was a scheduling issue and that someone would be there in an hour, I decided to stay until they could get there. An older gentlemen, about in his 80s, came up to me asking where a certain employee was and I told him she was not there today. He then started talking about grilling different types of food. I jokingly said to him, "I need to come by your house for dinner." In response this mother f***er says back to me, "it looks like you already have been outing out a lot." He then laughed and said for me not to get mad because he's only joking. I was so mad and embarrassed that I just walked off. Who says stuff like that to people? And a complete stranger at that!?!? It goes to show you that there are people out there who will try to drag you down and try to get you to fail. But not me, I refuse to let anyone pull me off this journey! After working with "Seniors" (mainly over 75) for 25 years, let me tell you...they think because they are old, they have a license to say anything to anyone without regard to hurting anyone's feelings. My OWN mother and father have done it!!!!

Very unfortunately, it IS normal. I have been on the receiving end of that kind of shit my whole life. In part, I think that it has a lot to do with why I've gotten so big. I bought in to these non-people every time. I just figured they can't all be wrong. I must be ____________(fill in the blank). I know now that "I am what Isay I am"!!!! Please don't let this type of thing have another second of your thought...I promise you that if you don't...I won't either!

I'm sorry that you had that experience. Please don't let it get you down. Sometimes when people get older, they just lose their filter and things fly out their mouths! My grandpa, who was the sweetest man with a heart of gold, said the rudest things sometimes. He didn't have a clue that he was being hurtful and would have felt awful if he understood that he had actually hurt someone. As he aged, he just didn't "get" it. -- HUGS!!

I'm sorry that happened to you. Nobody should have to be treated like that. We had our surgery on the same day. I have lost 29 pounds, 17 of that was preop so I know your struggles.

This is the best advice I can give... 1) Read the book "The 4 Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz , and 2) ignore the jerk. The book explains why people are like that, and helps you to let it roll off. (first chapter drags, but after that it is a great and short read) I highly recommend it... it's one of my top 3 of all time.
