My VSG is scheduled for Jan 13 and I'm hoping that sticking to the clear liquids and then small portions will help alleviate the symptoms of the diabetes, and lessen the medication. One thing I wonder (because I'm doing self-pay and going to MX for the surgery) did others in this same type of situation tell their regular PCP doc and what was the response? I'm worried the doc will chastise me etc., or I guess in extreme measures say she won't see me any longer? I guess if so I'd just find another doc. I also have a lot of anxiety/OCD/depression issues and so of course I worry more than needed about everything! I'm just afraid to tell the doc and get a negative response.
My PCP was ready to DRIVE me to the gastric doc herself!!

Morning, I had the sleeve done 2/22. I was on 2 insulins, long term and humalog before I eat! I was also on 7 blood pressure medications. While in the hospital, my blood pressure was 80/50 and so they took me off of all my blood pressure medications. About two weeks ago it rose a little so I was put on one 50 mg of losartan. And doing fine. As far as the insulin, I have not had to take insulin since my surgery. Unbelievable! My goal was to have more energy and get off of some of the medications! So this was all well worth it! Good luck!

I was insulin dependent but one month post surgery and I no longer take insulin or pills. I rise in the morning with a blood sugar of 78-110. I have lost 64 lbs since my surgery 2/22! I was also on 7 blood pressure medications and no only taking one 50 mg losartan. I am feeling so much better! My goal was getting off the medications! I know everyone can't be the same, but just thought I'd let you'll know I am OFF INSULIN!

I was on Metformin and Trulicty and am off both meds! Between restricted calories, and eating almost all protein, my blood sugars have been great!

I went from 17 meds daily to only 4, plus vitamin. No HBP, perfect A1C, no angina, no swollen ankles, no upset stomach. Do still take cholesterol shot plus med as I've had CVAs + CAD.

I'm so glad to read these responses, as everything I read online and was told at the informational seminar says if you are diabetic at all, do the bypass. They say the sleeve will only lower your meds and give you a lesser percentage of stopping meds. I've been agonizing over this. The bypass scares me for some reason, seems I read about more pain, longer recovery and longer until you can drive etc. I also worry about getting enough nutrients and bone density. You've all pushed me back toward the sleeve. I meet with the doctor on this March 20, two weeks. The other thing that concerns me is the percentage of excess weight loss numbers. If I'm going to make a big life change I want it to be worth it. I take two Metformin a day and just started in January.

I don't have diabetes, but do know that many people get off their meds for diabetes with the sleeve surgery. My doctor says sometimes this can happen within weeks!

    Good luck!

My triglycerides went from 293 before sleeve to 110. My A1C is now a bit too low. A few low sugars, but no highs; no meds.

I went from 20 meds daily to 4, plus my vitamins Which is good, because I am no longer good at taking pills.

My cholesterol went from 220 to 87. (I am still on a statin because I have CAD/CABG/stents).

And without sugar, my skin is wonderful

That is true that getting a gastric sleeve operation may resolve your diabetes.

So if someone has type 2 diabetes, than it is better to do a gastric sleeve surgery? Are there any possible negative consequences?

I was on insulin 4x a day prior to surgery. My last dose was the night before surgery and within three months my A1C was normal. I still have neuropathy in my feet which make them itch 20 hours a day, but other than that the sleeve was a miracle for my diabetes, even with the weight I gained in the last year (and am now working hard to take off).
