Is this surgery more dangerous than the other types of weight loss surgery? I had a cousin who had this surgery and then his incision got infected. I'm not sure what happened but he passed away like 2 weeks later. It was the saddest thing. I know he had other medical problems prior to the surgery. This case alone has made me never want to get a gastric bypass surgery.
Infection is a risk with any type of surgery as is the use of anesthesia. There is just no way around that so you have to make sure to find a really good doctor at a really good hospital to minimize these types of risks.
Unfortunately, James is right there are always risks to surgery and to most medical procedures. The best thing to do is to do your homework and find the best options and doctors for yourself.
My cousin had a great doctor with a great track record. I believe it was his only death and it was a couple of weeks later. I don't think they said it was the surgery, just the incision got infected and he had other medical problems too.
