I was on lansoprazole 30mg for about a year, then switched to 15mg and then stopped. i think you need it during the 1st year at least, but if you take this you need to supplement with calcium citrate (calcium carbonate will not be processed as you will have no acid in your stomach due to the PPI lansoprazole) to ensure you are absorbing enough calcium. Don't want osteoporosis instead of obesity! I took various vitamins too, Vitamin D (5,000IU) and B12 sub-lingual (this vitamin is produced/absorbed, not sure which, in the portion of stomach you don't have any more). I also continued with milk thistle for liver protection. And a general multivitamin, and some nightly marine collagen tablets to help my skin shrink back. Quite a list really.

    Hi
I had my sleeve done on 24th March 2011 in Aberdeen, Scotland at Albyn Hospital. My surgeon was Mr Duff Bruce and the procedure cost £10,000. Mr Bruce trained in the procedure in the US and does various types of WLS. He is very pro the sleeve.
He has been absolutely fantastic and I have had several calls from him since my return home to see how I am doing. Was very impressed with him and the anaesthetist, Professor Chambers. I will be seeing Mr Bruce and my dietician, next week.

Hi, I am in Hereford, and waiting for a decision from my GP as to whether he will recommend me for WLS. If not I will go private. I am favouring the sleeve I think?????
I am interested in how many of you have had the sleeve on the NHS, as I am getting the impression the NHS opt for bypass instead?? If any more of you could add where you had your surgery, cost, and whether you were happy with it, I would be grateful. Thanks to those who have already :-)

    Hi Juney

I was told by my consultant that the NHS don't really do the sleeve. He said this is because the NHS don't want to advertise this op because they know it would be popular!!!! You would think that the NHS would be happy to give people this op as it would save them loads of money in the future....

My sleeve cost me £10,000 and I had the op in Aberdeen by Mr Duff Bruce. I am totally delighted with the results so far and am so glad I had the op done. My only regret is that I didn't know about this op 10 years ago!

    Love

    hi juney,
I had my op in cardiff spire hospital and it was done by mr wong. it cosy £8.800 and it is the best thing i have ever done, the sleeve is quite a new idea in terms of wls and as yet the nhs are waiting for longterm results before offering the sleeve as part of wls options, so the majority of the british sleeve family on this forum will have opted for the private option.

    best wishes

    helen

Thanks Helen and Lisa. I don't have long to find out if my doctor will refer me to NHS, but I have decided I don't want a band or bypass. The sleeve is deffo the way for me, so maybe I shouldn't wait for NHS, and should just get on and book it! Once I have decided I want something, I want it yesterday!! So impatient lol
I know it hasn't been long for both of you, but how are you both doing? Just over a month for you Lisa, are you on mushy foods yet? Helen how have you done since January? I will get one of those weight loss tickers when I'm actually losing weight.
Love and best wishes to you

    hey juney

I had my sleeve 7 months ago, and my weight loss is over 100lbs. the weight loss is begining to slowdown a bit now, but it is still 4-6lbs per month. I used to wear a size 28 now I am 16-18, so for me this op has been life changing. I wish you luck with your doctors appointment

    hel xx

Any yet, about £3000 cheaper than in Canada....I guess it is all about demand and competition?
