    Hi folks

I'm considering a gastric sleeve and wondered if any of you have had surgery done at the Spire, South Bank. The surgeons are Mr Perry or Mr Wadley. Has anyone had surgery here or by these surgeons?

I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks

Also if there is anyone near Cirencester who has had the procedure done, I'd love to meet and discuss it with you

    Hello

I'm so pleased to have found this forum!! I've been to see the surgeon and he's happy to proceed once I've had a scan done (relating to a previous op I had to remove a large amount of my bowel). I'm absolutely terrified and excited all at once!!! I'm off for the CT scan next Tuesday the 4th March and meet with the surgeon again on the 10th when he will say yay or nay!

I live in Shrewsbury and the surgery will be done in my local hospital which is great. I've done nothing but think about it since my appointment and haven't told many people. Those I have told have given very mixed responses. Some think it's great and think I should go for it but others have really worried me. I know there are risks, I discussed them at my appointment but it doesn't make it any less scary! Unfortunately there was a story in our local newspaper just over a week ago about my surgeon and an op (sleeve) which had gone wrong and the patient died. My mum is now totally against it and questions why I wouldn't just try and diet! But I have for 20+ years...I'm 34, 23 stone and have battled with my weight since I was 13!!

Anyhow...I'm just so pleased to be able to read all these positive success stories. Any reassurance and more experiences would be very welcome!!

    Katie

I had my gastric sleeve in 2012 and I can understand your problems with food but you must eat enough and change the way you eat, I have found that you have a little and often. I have my breakfast, which usually is either weetabix with milk or porridge, I bought some small bowls especially for me. In the middle of the morning I will have a yogurt and perhaps a banana or some piece of fruit say melon or plum. Lunch time in the winter I have my home made vegetable soup or tinned soup and 3 crackers with cheese on them, I have either hard cheddar cheese, goats cheese or cream cheese. In the afternoon I might have biscuit [say digestive or any plain type] and an apple which I usually slice to make it easier to eat. For dinner I vary this as much as possible but keep to my small bowls or small side plate. I love fish, mince, duck, lamb, chicken but I still struggle with beef which I find hard to digest. I find that I must eat my vegetables first at dinner time and then my meat otherwise my meat or poultry fills me which is not balanced. The only time I have problems is when I have used a larger bowl or plate but my husband and I are eating out in restaurants, I only have a main course and I usually ask the waiter for a smaller portion and they are only too happy to oblige. Hope this will help you with your eating. xx

Hi I am two weeks to the day post surgery. I was like you terrified but I have to say its been fine so far. I have followed the after care diet to the letter. The only pain from the operation has been in my back and shoulder. I have been prescribed Tramadol for the pain and this has worked fine. I still get tired but I just listen to my body and rest. I intend to have the full 6 weeks off work to ensure full recovery. I am not hungry and have to make myself have something which is strange as I thought I would always feel hungry. I have lost 13 lbs since the op so am looking forward to full recovery and a healthier me. I am also diabetic and my blood sugars are all in the normal range without medication so its been worth the op already to get these results. Try not to worry and contact me anytime. Good Luck x

Hi yes add me to Facebook it would be lovely to talk to people about all this and I'm not too good at using this site lol I'm on Facebook as Emma Marie. I had my consultation a few months ago as I originally was looking at a gastric band but the more I looked into it I realised it would not work as well as a sleeve would for me. I'm going private with the hospital group. X

    Hi,
I haven't told anybody about my surgery apart from my husband so am avoiding putting anything on Facebook.
The 22nd can't come quick enough.

I have been told I only need to do 48 hrs on liquid pre-op - how about you?

I am self funding through Claremont in Sheffield.

I've told a few people but I won't be putting anything in Facebook ether lol. I need to do a 2 week milk diet and a 1 week normal diet but I'm attempting to doņa 3 week liquid diet just to be sure as I put on so much weight in the build up to this. I am absolutely petrified and feel realy sorry for myself but I only have my self to blame ( and possibly my ex lol) I'm self funding as well , who is ur surgeon? X

    Hi,
My Surgeon is Dr Ackroyd. I am soo excited and have a few 'last suppers' planned! I know some say its bad practice but I won't be socialising for a couple of months so need to go out with friends and family. I have told them I am going on a strict diet from Easter lol

He is very good - Dr Ackroyd fitted my band 4 yrs ago. It slipped last year and he removed it last July.

You did the right thing changing your mind on the band. I can't wait to have a permenant tool.

    Xx

    Hi all

I'm 25 years old had my surgery in the uk on 14th of January
I've lost 4 and a half stone so far
Obviously I'm sure everything will be fine for all of you considering surgery but just keep in mind some people do have issues I myself was sick up to 6 times a day from week 4 to week 9 and was barely getting anything down my I ended up having to have a drip as I was so dehydrated.
Don't get me wrong surgery is still the best in give ever done but I used to come on here all the time before my surgery and read about how people were fine right after I never read about people who weren't so it was a shock.
Just make sure you can have additional time off work if you need to is all I would say make sure you have somebody around to help if you need it and after surgery keep on top of your vitamins and supplements I lost track of these when I was sick and it just made me so much worse.
I'm happy to say 3 months out I feel amazing I've dropped nearly 3 dress sizes and have so much more energy I'm a happier person now and I'm sure you will all be too x

    Hi Lizzier,

Thanks for sharing how you felt after surgery. I have my surgery on 22nd April but..... Have an interview for my dream job 10 days after!! I need to be fighting fit to come across well at interview - it does worry me that I may look uncomfortable (I have 2 weeks off work. How did you feel 10 days after? How long did you have off work?
