Hi there, im in the uk, and i have to pay £10,000 its expensive but i trust the doctor and private clinic x
Hi all...I live in London, United Kingdom
I had my gastric sleeve done in King's college. My surgeon was Miss Chang, she was lovely and visited me nearly every day.
I would recommend King's any day, they were very helpful and the staff all worked so hard...
Well done King's, you've changed my life!!!!!
Hi all,
just reading through the posts re: NHS and the sleeve ect... I am having the sleeve on the NHS. They tried to sway me towards the bypass but I knew I didn't want to be rewired. They said I could have any choice of surgery. They have since put me in a private hospital to have the operation. I feel so lucky. I have been going through this procedure for over two years. A year ago the funding was finalised, 6 months ago I was told my decision to have the sleeve was signed off by the surgeon and the primary care trust and 2 months ago I was given my date and told that I would be having it done in a private hospital and I would get my own room. I could not fault the NHS. They have been brilliant. The key is to make all your appointments, go through the 'red' tape, do what they ask of you and keep pushing. My GP was also brilliant in researching what to do and writing to the primary care trust to help secure the funding. And now I can't believe I am only 9 days away from having it done! Amazing.
i was sleeved in uk on the NHS in york 5 weeks ago, all went very well, back at work after 2 weeks, lost nearly 3 stone.I feel fab. x
I have 3 weeks ago at Kings College Hospital London and Mr Patel was my surgeon. He is the best and all went very well.
I am having real problems persuading funders that my proposed surgery is within the NICE guidelines. I don't know if you could email me any letters (via the personal message function) from your GP to the authorities (with any identifying details like name and address excised) but it would help me to get an idea of what to get the doctors to write.
Has anybody else had difficulties with the NICE guidelines?
Many thanks.
Hi there,
I think I'm a Brit living in France for the past 8 months and I'm getting the sleeve op done on the 3rd of November. I'm quite lucky cos here as long as ur BMI is 40 and over the procedure is granted under what would be the equivqlent of their NHS I guess. I didn't have to write any letters or anything, the surgeon who operated on me for removal of gall stones in April suggested the sleeve to me due to my weight during a check up in may and now the date is set. Whilst in England I have to admit I tried all the shakes such lighter life and everything but it had never crossed my mind to have an op to loose weight. Good luck to all the people who are on that path.
Fingers and toes crossed I will be sleeved by Dr Pratik Sufi at the Whittington Hospital in London on 10 April 2012.
I will be having my op on the NHS. Was referred by GP in Jan 2011 and have spent a year waiting for op date. It will be 15 months by the time the op comes round, but I am really pleased. Very unlikely I could have ever paid for this privately and I have been employed since I was 17 years old and contributed to the NHS (via taxes and National Insurance etc) all my working life.
Have been overweight since age 8
Have been obese since age 15
Have been morbidly obese since age 20
Have been super morbidly obese since mid 30's
First asked about bypass surgery age 35 and got turned down by many GP's until I finally found a GP who said yes, when I was 42 years old. Am now 43 and will be nearly 44 by the day of the operation !!
Have been on the waiting list in the UK for 14 months now and have been told it will be at least another 3 month wait. Wish it would hurry up!!

Good to hear. I went on the waiting list in December 2010 and still waiting. Have been overweight since 4 years old and morbidly obese for many, many years. Can't wait to start my new life - eventually! Good luck for April
