    Default 5 days Post-op diet, help/feedback please!

I'm officially 5 days post-op and I tried to mix in a few more things today. I'm really just looking for feedback/suggestions to make sure I'm doing what I should be doing.

    Vitamins:
    2 Flintstones
    3 Caltrate 600 chewable (3 separate times a day)
    B12 sublingual
B12 complex (I have yet to take this, not sure when the best time is to take it)
Hair, Skin, and Nails (I have yet to take this, not sure when the best time is to take it)

    8a: 2 tablespoons greek yogurt, B12 sublingual

    930a: 1 Caltrate, 2 Flinstones

    1130a: 11oz. Premier Protein Shake

130p: sugar free popsicle, 1 Caltrate

4p: 2 tablespoons low fat cottage cheese

    6p: 4oz Chicken Bouillon, 1 Caltrate

I sipped on water all day but only managed to get in 3 cups. I also haven't "pushed" myself and had that stuck feeling that people get. I actually fear that so bad I think I might be being too careful. I still have a little gas in the center of my chest (not sure if this is from surgery or digestive gas?) and today I also started having a little bit of a sharp pain around my right rib area when I take a deep breath.

Other than that all is well. I'm open to any suggestions for when I should be taking my vitamins and with what. Ideas for getting in water. I feel worried b/c I'm only getting in about 300 calories right now. Not sure if I should up my protein shakes yet or let my stomach heal a few more days.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Ashlie - I couldn't drink water very well at all and I've always LOVED water. I was told to drink decaf tea because it changes the ph of the water. It has made a world of difference. I can finally drink now and it usually doesn't bother me at all. I am about 2 weeks further out than you so that might be a part of it! I still can't drink water but can get my fluids through tea. I also found a really wonderful protein coffee drink called CLICK that comes in decaf. Each serving (mixed with water) is 15 grams of protein. I mix it with milk and get about 23 grams. I've also been mixing powdered milk into my regular milk so that I get more protein. Take care! It gets better every day!

Don't take the caltrate and Flintstone at the same time, since the calcium fights with the iron in the Flintstones for absorption.

Move the caltrate to times when you're not eating iron. (So not with multivitamins.) It was suggested I use them as part of the smaller "snack-like" eating sessions.

    Hope that helps!

Oh and my nutritionist says you can take B12 whenever, with anything.

CLICK? That sounds great! I used to be such a coffee drinker. Where did you find it?

Should Caltrate be ok to take with dairy? For example if I'm having yogurt for breakfast?

As far as I've been told, yes. Your body actually needs vitamin D to properly use calcium. So long as you can tolerate lactose...which it seems you can...you are doing well by taking Calcium with dairy.

Oh and the calcium you're taking, ideally it's calcium citrate, which is already broken down partially and easier for your body to absorb.

God I sound bossy... sorry! Hope this helps, talk to your doc or nutritionist of course if you want to be sure.

Oh lord girl... 5 days and you've got a schedule down? You're doing better than I am at 9 months! LOL My docs told me not to worry about vitamins right away. The first week or two is all about staying hydrated while recouping. It sounds like you're off to a great start though!!!!

HA! Today was the first time I tried this schedule, and I pretty much failed miserably and just ate/took vitamins throughout the day. I feel a little overwhelmed b/c I have so many things I need to take! I just don't want to fail at the SLEEVE, like I have failed at every other weight loss attempt in my life!

I have a bariatric multivitamin, so it's all I need to take. You won't fail just focus It is very overwhelming in the beginning, especially if you try and over-think it. Don't be so hard on yourself, focus on healing
