How long were you out of work?

Hi everyone. I am having my sleeve done in less than a month and I was wondering how long was it before you felt like returning to work? I know it depends on your line of work but I was just trying to get some ideas. Unfortunately I am not able to tell my employers about the surgery because they don't believe anyone should have it. I have taken 2/1 weeks off but I'm concerned it won't be enough. Thanks.

I work at a desk and I am going back tomorrow (I am seven days post op today). I feel like I am ready to get back into the swing of things. I am lucky to have a very casual office so I may do sweat pants tomorrow because of the incisions.

Yea 2 1/2 weeks I was feeling ok but not good enough to go back to work I'm still off actually and this last week I haven't been able to keep things down so I'm most likely am going to extend my leave I'm suppose to back this Friday but not feeling like this. Everybody is different though

Everyone is different and bounces back at different rates. I have a desk job and I took 4 weeks off, mostly because I had the time and could do so.

It does very from person to person...I was planning on taking just a week because I only sit at a desk all day....but I am so glad I took the additional week the 2nd week I slept a lot and if I didnt have that Im not sure how I would be feeling right now.

If you have a desk job, 2 weeks is usually okay. If you are able take more, it's better only because you will feel very tired, but it's okay if you can't as long as you're not having any complications. I'm sure you'll be fine

Congrats!!!!! I was sleeved on Friday 2/1/13 and went back to work on Wednesday!!!! Now I work a desk job (county government) but I do get up and down to file and assist customers. We permit wells, septics and grade All the restaurants in the county BUT I did great!!!!! Its a busy office BUY Not a single problem!!!!! Also none of my 17 co-workers know about my surgery!!!!! It was a personal choice and I chose NOT to share!!!!! Best of luck with everything and keep us posted!!!!!

Thank you everyone. I only work 3 days a week so it sounds like I might be okay. I have read on a lot of post that people are already exercising a month out, which I found surprising. I thought you had to wait 6 weeks.

Took one week off and worked from home the second week for comfort.

4 weeks off. I have a job where I have to lift and I had to be no lifting over 20 pounds for 4 weeks.

I had my surgery on Wednesday and was back at work on Tuesday (Monday was a holiday or else i would have gone back Monday). No issues at all BUT I can sit and /or get up and move around as much as i need to, so that was a BIG factor!

I was out 5 days could have gone back in 3. I'm a dentist

Today is the beginning of week 3 for me and I went into the office but left early. Still tire easily. Worked from home last week. Feel good, but again, tire easily!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm glad this was asked.. Since my time off will be paid with short term disability through my work.. I will probably milk it for all I can get.. When I had my back issues last year, I enjoyed being able to catch up on all my Netflix TV shows
