    Default Pre-op weight loss

Hi, I've just started the pre-op diet. How much weight did people aim to loose before their surgery? I was told to start two weeks before surgery and to stick to less than 1000 cals a day but how many lbs is acceptable (I'm just worried in case I don't manage to loose enough)

Hi! My doctor never said to me "I want you to lose X number of pounds." What he did say was to take 2 SlimFast shakes a day (breakfast and lunch) and a sensible dinner. I lost 14 lbs by the time my surgery came around.

    Good luck

    Start weight: 286 (8/28/12)
    Pre-op weight: 272 (10/22/12)
Goal to weigh what my drivers license says: 225 (3/9/13)
    First goal weight: 199 (7/20/13)
    Second goal weight: 186 - 100 lbs lost ( )
    Third goal weight: 175 ( )
    Fourth goal weight: 150 ( )
Final goal weight: remains to be seen

It is my understanding that it's not just about weight loss at the pre-op stage, and more importantly about shrinking the liver to a more managable and operable size. I lost 11kg (24 pounds) in the 2 weeks that I was on the shake diet, but did not eat anything bar 3 x shakes per day (with an occasional chicken/beef broth in the evening) to add some different flavours. I figured, if this was the start of a lifestyle change, I would do what it takes to get the ball rolling.

I wouldn't worry about lbs for now. You may even want to just toss the scale until the day of surgery. The sleeve is going to do way more for weight loss than your pre-op.

Total inches lost to date 38.6 inches 98.0 cm
    Highest weight 325
    1st Goal - below 300 (12/12/30) 9 days after surgery'
    2nd Goal - 265 weight I met my wife (13/2/23)
    3rd Goal - 250 lowest weight in my 30's (15/4/2013)
4th Goal - 215 lowest weight as an adult ()
    5th Goal - below 200 ()

I was told at my initial appointment with the surgeon, I was required to lose 15 pounds prior to surgery. This would be evaluated 2 weeks prior to surgery and if not accomplished then I would be placed on the Advantage Protein drink diet for 14 days. I have lost 5 pounds so far and still have a goal of 11 more pounds in case there is a difference in my scale and the office scales. I do not have a surgery date yet pending surgery pre-cert with insurance. I have been either walking or doing some type of exercise for the past 3 weeks, eating small portions, low carb and increased protein meals with calorie count approximately 1100 per day, also drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
