go through this...Im pretty sure low vit D is pretty common...I was told by the surgeon to take Vit D supplements...
then to get bloodwork again in 6 weeks...oh man does it take that long to increase Vit D levels?
Thoughts/feedback?
Or go on vacation to a warm and sunny place. that helps with the Vit. D too.
It must be common because during our pre-op classes they are telling us to take vit. D, calcium, b12 and multi vit.
Yup. This is VERY common, don't lose any sleep over it. Finish the course that you were prescribed and it should be back within normal levels. Once you are sleeved, you will need to take calcium CITRATE on a daily basis. The calcium citrate chewy bites from Bariatric Advantage also have Vitamin D in them (and are very yummy). Once I got my baseline levels up, this has helped me to keep them up.

Both my husband and I (both had the sleeve) tested low in Vit D. I had it before my surgery. Part of it is due to living in MI where we don't see the sun as much as you lucky southerners! I think it is pretty common. I found some gummy vit D and am planning to pick it up next time I go to the store. Since we chew them up, they won't sit in the stomach and absorption can be kind of iffy. I found them at Krogers so they are easy to find. Best wishes!
I was deficient pre surgery. I also hate the sun because I hate being tan and I never drink milk and don't eat much dairy, so hardly surprising. I've been on 2000 iu of Vitamin D ever since I was a pre-op, and my levels are completely normal. I don't know how long it took to build up, but again levels are still fine after being on that dose for over a year.
