A friend told me that Belgium was a great place to visit if you want to have gastric sleeve surgery. Much more inexpensive than the US, they have better doctors and better facilities. Plus the fact that you get to see the sites there, before or after your surgery! That's something you can't beat.

In Europe, the best country to go to for gastric sleeve surgery is Germany. It has the best equipment, the best specialists, and very CHEAP! They say that the normal bill for gastric sleeve surgery here is more than 1/4 of what you would pay in the United States, and they have better knowledge than doctors in the U.S. They are far more experienced too!

Believe it or not, Hungary, Poland and Croatia are also in the running, but then they tend to be more expensive than a procedure done in Mexico, for example. Hungary, for one costs twice as much as procedure done in Germany.

I'm just wondering why people from the U.K. opt to have their procedures done in India when here are at least five places in Europe that offers a comparable service?

I am from England, hi everyone, and I had mine done in the Czech Republic by Dr Cierny and I had the best treatment there I have ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend him. I had my sleeve done in May 2009 and my highest weight was 256lbs, and is now 133lbs and I am very happy. I can eat enough to have a good life but the restriction is still there so I am very quickly satiated. The UK NHS is only now catching on to this procedure but with the austerity cuts I can't see there being much expansion. So if you need the WLS and have just over £6K look into the Czech option.

I too am with Dr. Cierny in Czech Republic. He has (reassuringly) sent me away on two previous occasions, which although disappointing, means he takes the job very seriously and will for certain develop the European centre of excellence that he is trying to attain.

I go back out there on the 4th September to try again!

Hi Gal, I had to cancel once, before I flew but I still lost the cost of the flight, due to a cold, and when I did get out there it was touch and go as to whether he would operate as my white cell count was high. We decided this was due to a very painful deplaquing visit to the dental hygenist a day earlier that had pushed crud into my blood stream. So I got a go-go-go at the last minute much to my relief. Dr C is a top man, you are in good hands with him.

    Good luck on the 4th.

    Jane x

Note to all, don't get a cleaning at the dentist the day prior to getting your gastric sleeve!
Who would have thought that could totally interfere with your surgery.. wow.. at least you were able to get your sleeve done while you were out there.

    Hi Janey,

It's nice to meet another Brno sleever! I've just had my blood results and my CPR test is way high. I am hoping it has settled down by the time I get there. I had tonsillitis last week and I am sure it was that what sent it sky rocketing.

I would never get over it if they cancel on me again! What a nightmare that would be.

Keep your finger's crossed for me. I am only 4 days away from flying out!

    Hi Happy camper,

Bariatric Surgery | Obesity Surgery | Weight Loss Surgery | Cosmetic Bliss

These are the people who organised mine and Jane's surgery. It is in the Czech Republic and they are working on the criteria for being a centre of excellence at the moment and should have it very soon.

Michael and Deb are the people who organise it for you. Both English with nursing qualifications and they will be there for you at all times through your surgery. It is very reassuring to have someone there who knows the ropes and there way around all the paperwork etc.

Dr. Cheirny is a very conscientious surgeon and I have total confidence in recommending him. If you have any questions I am happy to answer them.

    Good luck,
    Tracey

I used CosmeticBliss, Bariatric Surgery | Obesity Surgery | Weight Loss Surgery | Cosmetic Bliss and was very happy and impressed. The Czech surgeon Dr Cierny, and his team are fantastic and very experienced.
