I have my upper GI and abdominal ultrasound on 2/4. I am waiting to get my nutrition appt, but have classes scheduled for 1/25 and 1/31 for their required classes. I meet the psych on 2/13 then they will submit for insurance approval. I am anxious to get a surgery date.

It seem like every doctor and every insurance plan has different requirements. Just jump thru all their hoops and know that when you finally get your surgery date that the doctor is sure you will be safe and come thru the operation without any foreseen problems. High blood pressure is one of the things that will greatly improve as you lose the weight. I was on a small dose of PB meds before surgery and within one week I didn't even need that. I don't know if your doctor will put you on a pre op diet as that varies by doctor. Mine didn't require one only saying that if I gained the surgery would be postponed until I lost the weight I gained. The nutritionist had us keep food logs and and then gave us suggestions on how to improve our food choices. I lost 25 lbs while waiting for surgery date. Just do whatever they require and all will be good. Be patient it takes a while. Best wishes on your journey.

Highest weight 440 lbs. lowest weight 9.5 lbs at birth
    Date of surgery weight 340
    12 week checkup 301 BMI <50 yeah!
Weight on birthday 3/24/48 Goal 285 would be nice.

My surgeon requires I lose 15 pounds prior to the surgery. His nurse stated it is due to decrease the fat around the liver. I have lost 2 pounds in a week, but have 13 more to go. I have some classes to attend as a requirement. I have already met the 6 months monitored weight loss for the insurance requirement and have to meet with the psychologist on 2/13. After his report is available then everything will be submitted to the insurance for pre-authorization. Once completed then I will be called to set up my surgery date. The nurse told me the prior auth can take 24 hours to 30 days to obtain. When the date is set then I will have an MD appt to finalize the surgery and weight in. If I have not lost the 15 pounds then I have to be placed on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. During those 2 weeks I have to attend a class that teaches what to expect after surgery and the diet I will have to follow.

How many classes do you take for nutrition? I have only one and I'm like, that's it?! How am I supposed to learn how to eat for the rest of my life with one class?

i have to attend three classes per my insurance, and i have to pay out of pocket for these. did you have to pay for yours if so can you attend more even though you are not required to do so?
