    Default Soft drink post op

Hi i am new and hopefully will be getting the sleeve this year or early next year. I am a big drinker of Pepsi max, I can drink as much as 10 375ml cans a day and I can't remember the last day I didn't have at least one. My question is, is there anyone out there who is the same and has struggled after surgery without it. I can't drink water much I rarely drink any of it because it makes me feel a bit ill so if anyone is like me and has had the sleeve done I would love to hear from you.

I've never heard of water making anyone ill before....hmm...you will not be able to do carbinated drinks after, from what I read. I am not yet sleeved. Try some of the other drinks allowed and see what you think. I broke up with soda years ago, and only drink it if nothing else is available, which is never, lol. Its bad for you all the way around. Congrats and welcome to the site! You will be welcomed with open arms. Good luck on your journey.

Lots of us have struggled with the pop monster but honestly, you do need to work on weaning yourself from it. It was my hardest thing to give up because I swear I could have lived on it. I drank regular pop because didnt want the artificial sweeteners but it really caused me to pack on the pounds. I waited until I had my surgery to quit but many are able to give it up before. Just start cutting back to one a day and then go from there. The caffeine headache will be murder if you dont, trust me, even with the pain meds. Best wishes! Best thing I ever did for myself!

Okay if you want to be healthy you have a choice. Soda or Health! It does not matter if it is diet or not, in fact there is a lot of research that supports diet is actually worse in many ways. You may want to try bottled water or put some lemon in it, drink crystal light too but no soda! Start now for kicking at after surgery will be hard. Just stopping the soda will kick off weight loss provided you do not substitute it for other bad stuff. My wife and I stopped soda about 2 years before surgery and what a difference! I had maybe 1 every 1 or two months on a road trip an it became way too sweet for me.

But essentially the choice is healthy or drink soda?

I was never a huge soda drinker - I did enjoy my Diet Coke, but I had given it up once before. Stopping soda was one of the first things I did to prepare for my sleeve. I knew I didn't want to fight that battle afterwards. I drink water but I've always loved it and I use crystal light and sugar free kool-aid to change up the flavors. You can also do unsweet tea with lemon and decaf coffee I think, but I don't drink coffee or tea. Of course, I still love skim milk! Good luck to you. The more demons you can slay before your sleeve, the easier it will be after :O)

I went down step by step. My whole thing with me getting healthy was making small changes and eventually getting to be healthier, a journey that doesn't end. I used to drink Dr. Pepper every day, three a day, and I went from that to Diet, then to Diet Rite, then cut that back to 1 a day, then 1 every three days, then to tea, and about two months before surgery cut them out completely. I haven't had any soda post-op, but I have also not gone out to eat yet (still on liquids) and we don't keep them in the house anymore at all. If you don't have them available, you are less likely to drink them. I agree with what everyone else said on here though, you are making this choice to be a healthier you. In my case, I couldn't justify drinking sodas when I knew they weren't good for me and would hamper my success.

everyone is different. i am not a pop drinker, but i was an evil smoker. you wanna talk about hell in a handbasket of feelings and emotions cutting cigs out....eyes roll...tears appear!! it is happening AND it is better this way for me. same with sodas. start to slow them down, have the surgery, and be done for a while. make peace whith it. then see if you can handle a b-day can in a year or too or maybe you will never want one again!! smoke is starting to make me sick...perhaps pepsi shall do the same for you!! all the best!!!!

I was a diet 7 up addict, probably drank as much as you did and I also drank up until the morning of my surgery. I never ever drank water at all and it was hard for me to start, right after surgery you are so thirsty but can't really handle much at first. Once I got home it was easier to get my water in, I use Crystal Light to help. I've had some sips of soda after surgery and the taste is now weird to me, I remember the same from when I had my tonsils out as a teenager.
It was much easier to break the habit than I though it would be.

Diet Pepsi Max was my FAVORITE drink presurgery. I quit them in May 2012 (cold turkey) and had my surgery June 29, 2012. Best thing I ever did and I do not miss them at all. Ever now and then I want a sip of a soda and I will take a very small sip and they taste horrible! Like pure sugar. I stopped all those bad habits presurgery so I would not struggle with them and the surgery afterwards. Good luck to you!

I was and am still a Diet A&W drinker. I just buy it in liter bottles now and take the caps off and let it go mostly flat before I attempt to drink it. I still have 2-3 glasses a day. I figure enough has been taken away, let me have one thing I love.
