Working on my insurance right now and if all goes well, my surgery will take place in Costa Rica. From what I now know, our insurance will pay for India or Costa Rica. I have spoke with my nurse practicioner and next step is to get in touch with IndusHealth to get the ball rolling!

Do you mind my asking what insurance you have, and why they cover out of country surgery. Has anyone else heard of that from their insurance carriers. Is this unusual or typical????? Great info...

My insurance TPA was wells fargo. I think they've changed their name over the last month or so. Our insurance cards are still the same. Last year or maybe 2 years ago they introduced this program where we could go to India and have surgeries and it would pay 100% plus would pay ME 20% of the savings difference from us surgery price and india surgery costs. Some people went for knee replacement and they have done soooo well. Much better that the people that have had surgeries in the states. My son had knee surgery last year but i did not want him to be the guinea pig for it! I can't begin to tell you how mcuh outta pocket we had. This year they have introduced Costa Rica as another place we could go. These facilities are state of the art! They all speak English! And the people that I know whom have had surgery are doing much better than people in the states!!! First of this year, i found out that they paid for 2 bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve). We have a nurse practicioner in the plant where my husband works and she referred me for the surgery. That got the ball rolling and now I am incontact with IndUShealth who will work on all travel plans, passports, surgery dates, medical records, etc and anything else we need. I am just playing a waiting game right now. I don't know if anyone has the option to use IndUShealth in their insurance plans, but everyone that I know are really praising it!!! I am a skeptical that works for attorneys so you can see my legal brain working on all this..... I will leave you the link. indushealth.com .....wish me luck on my journey!!! I do not know how much the surgery was. All I know is I am refunded 20% of the cost of the US v. Costa Rica prices and I received 1900.00.

I am very interested in learning more about having my surgery in Costa Rica. I had my lap band in Mexico and would go back in a minute, but my husband is concerned about safety and does not want me to go back there. We had been talking about going to Costa Rica for a vacation anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone. Had to have my band removed because it slipped and I gained back almost all of the weight within a year.

I never ended up having my surgery in Costa Rica. My insurance ended up approving surgery in Florida.
