Default Any musicians here? Specifically wind players

I'm currently waiting on the insurance approval for surgery. But was wondering if there were any wind players here who have had the surgery. How long before you were able to go back to playing regularly? I play oboe and it takes a huge amount of abdominal pressure to control. Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Btw, I'm a noob :-)

Hi Denise, I wondered the same thing before having my surgery being a Sax player and gigging a lot of different venues. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to play the same as I did before the surgery and asked my dr about it. I didn't play as per my Dr's. orders for close to 2 weeks( dr said he didnt want me to chance busting a staple while trying to heal from the surgery)and tried it out to see where I was wind wise..the first day I was slightly winded but kept on it and I'm back to where I was before and probably a little better..so,long story short...you will be able to play your oboe within 2 weeks post op with no problem...

    lol gotta love band nerds
I played my flute and piccolo regularly after about 3 weeks post-op. It was very therapeutic for me during those first few weeks.

I play alto sax and clarinet for my own enjoyment (not out in public) and think you should be fine in a couple of weeks too. Best Wishes.

I play clarinet but haven't since surgery so not much help there it sucks when you are forced to pawn your instruments for money to buy your kids clothes but oh well another one will come my way one day

Sorry Ace. Having to pawn your gear truly stinks.
