Default Where to have it done?

    Hi all,

Am seriously considering having gastric sleeve surgery. I won't qualify on the NHS so will have to go private (which I don't mind at all). I have been doing some research and the prices vary quite a lot. I was thinking of going through either The Hospital Group or Healthy Living as I live in the West Mids (don't fancy going abroad).

Has anyone had their surgery through these? If so, how did you find the whole process?

    Thanks,

    Georgie

    Hi
I had mine done 5 days ago.I went from band to sleeve.
I went via The hospital group and was at the Spire hospital in little aston.
You can get the price lowered by saying you have been quoted £9950 by another firm.
My surgeon was Amir Khan and he is brill.
I would recommend THG, well so far.
DO NOT GO WITH 'SURGI CARE' or a surgeon called 'MR HASHIMI'.
They buthchered me completly hence i went to Hospital group 4 years later, after continuous problems with band, for the op.
    Good luck

Wow thanks for the info. I liked the idea of hospital group as that's who the celeb's use. It would be good if I could get the price knocked down too.
Initially I looked at the band but after much deliberation decided I need something that will not allow me to overeat. How are you finding your sleeve so far? Is it uncomfortable at first? x

Red face Re: Where to have it done?

    Hi Georgie,
I'd be really interested to hear where you decide to have your op, as I live quite close to you. I was thinking about THG, mainly because they are local (Bromsgrove). Have also been looking into BMI at Droitwich. If you are still looking/researching, then message me on here and maybe we can swap info on the best place to get it done!

    Hey Emma,

I'm now looking at going directly to Spire (cut out the middleman and hopefully save a few pounds). I've narrowed it down to Little Aston or Parkway (mainly because they're closer). Next step will be to go and have a look at both and then hopefully make a decision from there x

    Hey Georgie,
Thanks for that... Didn't realise you could save money with Spire... am off to check out their website now! When you say 'have a look', do you mean you are having consultations at both before you decide? (That would cost, wouldn't it?) Thanks for replying to my message.x

Hi Georgie, idk what 10k uk pounds convert to in USD but a lot of us go to Mexico. Personally, my daughter & my self are using Dr. Almanaz in TJ for 4500$ each. Airfare from UK to San Diego should be about 1000$ - 1200$. Plus u get a mini holiday out of the deal! ;-) IMHO...

    Hi Em,
I'm not sure whether it will definitely be cheaper but a lady I was chatting to previously said she went through the HG but had surgery at a Spire Hospital so I was thinking they may be cheaper?
With regard to the consultation if you have one with the surgeon you have to pay about £300 but this is taken off the cost of surgery when you have it done with them. I was going to make an appointment with the weight loss nurse at both (she's free), go and have a tour and see which one I felt most happier with x

    Hi bobby,
I don't like the idea of going abroad for surgery just in case something goes wrong. Good luck with your surgery for tomorrow though.

At first I wrote off going abroad for my sleeve, but once I found out it was £4000 cheaper, I decided to look into it. I went to Czech Republic with Cosmetic Bliss who arranged everything for you, flights, hotel, transfer to hospital etc etc. They couldn't do enough for us, and 4 days post op I felt good as new. It's 2 weeks tomorrow since I had my op, and I'm ecstatically happy! The surgeon was Dr Cierny, and you can Google him and Cosmetic Bliss, and only come up with glowing reports for all. It's not like going on your own either, as they put you in touch with whoever is going out at the same time, so I went with a lady called Sam, and we facebooked and texted before we went, and felt like we knew each other. The room was a twinbedded room with balcony, just like being on holiday! Good luck with whoever you go with, I think the sleeve is the best option, and I feel like I've never had anything done. Good choice!

Sleeved with Cosmetic Bliss on June 1st 2011 Dr Cierny is my hero!

    Hi chick - That's v.helpful - thanks
I have just requested a quotation from Spire, as they have one in Worcester and in Droitwich as well, which is a bit nearer to me. I've just been watching a WLS/utube blog from another user on here...in fact I seem to be utterly addicted to these websites and forums since I made 'the decision'!!(lol!) Just trying to cram as much research in as possible before I tell my family and get the ball rolling. It's good to hear stories from others who have gone through similar experiences - and to know what to expect after the op. Can't wait to have my first visit and begin my journey... although I'm really nervous about saying the 'wrong thing' at a consultation or being told I'm not suitable for some reason! But with a BMI of around 40, I'm pretty sure I would be a suitable candidate for a GS.
Anyway, let me know how you get on, when you take the next step! x

    Em,
My BMI is around 40 too. I've googled and we're ideal candidates for WLS. Are you on facebook? I've joined 2 sites on there - Gastric Bypass UK and Weight Loss Surgery Friends. These are a brilliant source of info and there's quite a few sleevers who I talk to for info. From all the things I've read, the sleeve is so much better than the bypass i.e less dumping and your bits are left as they were lol. It's literally just your stomach being reduced in size.
