Hi Georgie - Yes, am on facebook - and yes, have seen a few bits and bobs on there about WLS. I don't know about you, but I'm planning to keep pretty quiet about my surgery - I haven't even planned to tell my family (apart from my hubby of course.) My worry about joining WLS forums on facebook, is the dreaded notification system - when all my facebook friends and family will suddenly get a notification saying ''EMMA HAS JOINED THE GASTRIC SLEEVE CHAT'' or "EMMA LIKES THE BARIATRIC SURGERY PAGE" something... lol... know what I mean? I have done a bit of 'loitering' where I can though...anonymously...lol.
I agree what you say about the sleeve being the best option... and the more I read about it, the more I think it is the only way forward for me. X

I too am keeping quiet about my surgery (only my hubby knows). I thought once I start losing the weight I'll tell people then how I've done it. Won't be able to stop me then lol. I was weary of joining these groups but they are closed so only group members can see your posts (no other f'book friends can). I got my hubby to have a look on my page and look at my newsfeed but he can't see anything. These two are the only ones I'll join though because they're closed x

Thanks Georgie - I found the fb pages - but haven't joined yet. (Maybe I'm paranoid, but it shows a big list of members on their front page - I think FB should make members details private for closed groups.) Anyway, I noticed that Weight Loss Surgery Friends also have a support group over in Wolverhampton - it would be nice to go to a meeting and meet some 'real live sleevers' - so I might look into that. x

    Hi,

I was in the same situation and BMI. I had mine done on the 13th by Mr Jenkinson in London. I looked at who had the best success record and who I could trust.

Google london bariatric group AND laparoscopicconsultant. Don't be fooled by the address, look at his credentials.

Also, I have no external stitches, he used skin glue to minimise the scars.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

I'm going through BMI for mine and have been quoted £8000, it should be £11,000 but my surgeon knocked the price down, my consultaion was only £50. I did consider going abroad but i wanted the safety net of having it done closer to home.

I am having the op with Proffesor John Baxter in December in Bridgend Swansea . The price is just under £9000 but you get follow up for life after with regular blood tests etc every year to make sure alls well all under the NHS. Three nights in hospital and contact with the specialist nurse any time you need her. Fingers cross as I start my pre op diet on Friday! Good luck x

    Hello,

I`ve just noticed you were discussing about prices - where to have it done. Well I`d propose having it done in small neighboring country. Like I have a friend from Sweden who had gastric bypass done in Lithuania which is just 1 hour flight over Baltic sea from Sweden (less than 2 hours flight from UK). It was performed by one of the best surgeons in Europe prof. Maleckas in Kaunas, Nordbariatric clinic. And costed like half of the price what it costs in Sweden.

ah, forgot to say the price for gastric bypass/ sleeve - like £5.400 and you get attention by an experienced surgeon who works in also Sweden for 10 years and has practice with more than 1000 bariatric operations.

Like Master'sDelight I am going with Mr Mannur. I went through BMI Blackheath for the consultation and he is still offering the reduced rate of £8000 that Delight mentioned. Now to finance it!
